Financial assistance during school

Specialties CRNA

Does anyone out there know if the Navy has a similar program to the Army's STRAP program?

From a recent post, I understand that in the Army's STRAP program, you get around $1200-1500/month stipend during school plus loan repayment of $20 K/year up to $50 K total. Your return obligation apparently is two years of reserve duty for every one year they pay for school. Is this true? I realize that there is a very high likihood of being called to serve active duty as a CRNA, but this still seems like a great deal. Or is the real deal two years of active duty for every one year they pay for school?

What I really want to know is, does the Navy have a similar program? Please let me know asap. Thanks in advance

David

I only know about the Army and the active duty part. They have a direct ascention program where you apply for the Army's CRNA program. If you are accepted you go to Basic Officer Training, then directly to their CRNA program in San Antonio TX. After graduation you owe something like 4.5 years.

The Reserves have a similar program where you apply for the Tuition Reimbursement (i think that is what it is called) you don't get any money other than tuition, where as the active duty side pays you 2nd LT. salary while you are in school.

The Navy, I have no clue.

My advice is talk to the Healthcare Nurse Recruiter for all the branches and see what they can do for you.

Thanks Flying ED,

Thanks for trying to help. It seems that not a lot of info is out there regarding this issue. I just want to get another source first before asking my recruiter as sometimes their info can be biased and/or designed to funnel you into a program they need recruits for versus the other way around. Perhaps, I'll try searching this board using the search function. Maybe this issue has come up before.

Thanks again,

David
