Roll call and discussion for all of us applying to Frontier Bound spring term 2013.

I haven't submitted anything but I'm so excited.

Anyone else?

Congrats Elouise! Glad someone is hearing something especially good news! What program did you apply for? I applied to the FNP.

The midwifery program. Would you go June 10-13 also for frontier bound?

Hopefully they're contacting people by program and they just haven't sent out emails to the FNP group yet...crossing my fingers...I would also be going to Frontier Bound during June 10th-13th. What does your application look like?...I have a 3.375 GPA (which I'm a little worried about), going on 8 yrs experience--3 yrs in med/surg and 5 yrs in the OR. I feel like I have decent references...but you never know! I applied late January/early February so all of this waiting has been torture!! I also applied for Texas Tech Health Science Center and Texas A&M Corpus Christi which I've heard are really competitive...Frontier is my first choice mostly because of how they have their program structured. My husband has one more year of nurisng school. If I were to be accepted, I hope to work full time, school part time for the first year and then once the hubby graduates drop to working part time and maybe consider going to to school full time. Hoping for good news soon! Congrats again on your acceptance! I'll keep you posted!

Hello everyone.

I'm also in the class 115 and I'm still waiting as well. I applied early January and its definitely been a long wait! Hopefully we will here something soon. I'm nervous. :0)

Hi! I've applied to the cnep class 118. I was wondering if those of you who have gotten in could share some details with me? Did you interview? Ive seen that on some threads. Also what were your gpa's like? My most recent rn-bsn degree is a 3.7, but if they look at the degree before that with my rn not so hot a 3.0. I used the cno of my hospital as a reference, and 2 charge nurses. Also I just felt like 300-500 words for an essay really limited my ability for a great essay. Did you feel confident about your essay? I think I'm having typical anxiety, but any answers would greatly help. I have 9 months experience on a Cardiothoracic step down unit, and 5 months( and still working there) in an ER.

Hi there!

I can relate to your anxiety so ill try to help out. I was accepted to CNEP 113. I did an accelerated 1 yr BSN and had a 3.84 GPA in it and a 3.5 in my other undergrad degree (French). I think a 3.7 is a strong/competitive GPA and it was your more recent degree. Plus, 3.0 is still not bad or below their minimum. Id bet they focus on the 3.7. They don't interview anymore- it's all based on the packet now.

I too felt the essay length was way too short. I spent a long time trying to figure out what to include. In the end I just tried to demonstrate my passion for midwifery and my understanding of the issues in our maternity system. I was told that the essays count for a lot and I think they were the strongest elements in my application.

Do you think/know your references wrote strong letters? I was told they count for a lot too.

Your experience sounds good. I actually returned to nursing school specifically to become a midwife and so never planned to work as a nurse. I had 5 years of doula/CBE experience but no nursing experience when I applied. I was told that my birth-related experience would count but not as much as nursing experience- so you have an advantage over me w that.

It sounds like you're a strong candidate. Visualize getting in : ) good luck!

Ok thank you So much! I think my essays were well written, but I want this so bad I'm def second guessing myself. I like you only went to nursing school to become a midwife, it's been a decade long dream for me. So anxiety is probably at an all time high. I still haven't sent my packet in because I'm waiting on my final transcript to say degree awarded, I literally just got my bsn last Friday. Thank you gain for your kind words, it's going to be a long couple of months!

I am officially neurotic! I am constantly refreshing my e-mail and their facebook page. Today is 6 weeks before Frontier Bound date. What the heck is going on????!!!!

Hi Emily

I'm there with you. I'm hoping to hear something this week because your right this is the 6th week. My husband want me to email them but I'll wait one more week. Ugh! Very nerve racking. Let me know if you get your response from them. Good luck.

Which class did y'all apply to?

I applied to class 115 FNP. I think Emily did too. But I could be wrong. Still waiting.

My name is Melissa. I applied to class 115 FNP as well. Still waiting! micbrem I emailed Frontier last Thursday and they replied "The Class 115 files are still in the review process with the Admissions Committee. We should be sending out the emails soon." This is week 6 before Frontier Bound, which is their goal in notifying the applicants. So I am hoping to hear this week...crossing my fingers. Keep us posted if anyone hears anything!
