ASN to MSN vs BSN to MSN

Hello,

Ive always had an interest in becoming a CNM since 05 when I went to LPN school. Ive been an RN with my MSN since '07. I lost interest in going back to school since I seemed to be stuck on a med/surg floor eternally. I finally got the opportunity to start working on an LDRP floor and will start training in a couple of weeks. This has litten a spark within me and inspired me to go after my dream to become a CNM. Im trying to decide between getting my BSN and then applying to Frontier or applying to the ASN to MSN bridge? Are there any disadvantages to not completing my BSN since Frontier doesnt award one along the way? The only con I can think of is if for some reason I dont finish, I wont have anything to show for it, but if I get my BSN I know I will at least have that whether I pursue my Masters degree or not. I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks a bunch!

If you already have an MSN I don't know why you would not just do a post-masters cert. Most CNM programs I have seen will take the MSN in lieu of a BSN. You would not need to do the ADN-MSN bridge since you already have an MSN.

ETA - I just read your post again. Did you mean to say you have been RN with ADN since '07? In that case I think if you can do the BSN part locally and cheaper than Frontier that would be a good option.

I think you have mentioned the main disadvantage of not doing the BSN. The program at Frontier would take 3 years and anything can happen. I would be of the opinion to complete the BSN option locally if that is a cheaper alternative - UNLESS it is going to require so many pre-reqs and additional courses that if would take a substantially longer time.

I don't think not having a BSN is a disadvantage in the long run. Just apply and see what happens. I have heard that the bridge program is a ton of work so prepare yourself for this and maybe ask some specific questions about the level of workload.
