Whats next after doing CM?

Specialties Case Management

I have been in CM for almost 5 years now with a good insurance company. It is beginning to be "boring" doing the same thing everyday.

Is there a "step up" in insurance CM? Like in the hospital, you go from staff nurse to Charge then nurse manager..Do you guys ever wonder about this? Any comments or recommendations?

Thanks!

I do not know how the world of insurance works, but in the hospital setting most of my colleagues does not want to do anything else. The few that want a change want to move into a different setting (rehab, home health, insurance, etc.) or they want to move up (supervisor, manager, director, etc.) or they want to move to less hours for flexibility (From full-time to part-time or from part-time to per diem) in order to work or not work in other settings (Yes, I actually have a few co-workers who do not have to work and so they choose to work per diem and no other job).

Nurse Auditing and Appeals. At the insurance company I work at that is the next step. After that it is to get a RHU. (registed health underwriters certificate to write insurance policies.) I was a QA/Precert nurse before transitioning to CM. I did CM for 2 years before bumping up to my current job.

Medical Underwriting. At the insurance company I work for you must have at least 10 years CM/UR experience to move into that position.

Unfortunately I work at a regional office and this is not possible, but I am glad to have the information as I may be able to take it to a different company!!!
