Hi everyone. I need an advice and opinion regarding my situation. I am currently an RN Case Manager for an insurance company and works from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm M-F. I love this job however I wanted to pursue my Masters in FNP. I am currently an online student and have enjoyed my Research and Health Policy classes so far while doing my Full Time job. My problem is when it will come to clinicals. I know that there are barely any clinics that will precept on a weekend basis or after 5:00 pm here in my area. I love my job so much that I cannot bear to leave or go per-diem/part-time and this job generates my main income as I am the main breadwinner for me and my family. I was thinking of shifting to another MSN track which is MSN in Case Management. There aren't much MSN Case Management nurses I know of, and a lot of my supervisors and managers have CCM certification. So I am in the middle of thideciding whether to pursue another MSN track or stay in my MSN FNP courses and would appreciate any opinion you may have. Thank you.

Hi! That truly depends on what you really want to do with your degree. Where do you see yourself in the future? Take some time to decide what's important to you and why you decided to go the FNP route.

On another note- You could always ask your leadership if you could flex your time to accomadate clinicals or talk to HR about taking a leave of abscence that allows you to be off on your clinical days for the time you are in school. Of course it may be unpaid, but then you have to decide if it's worth the sacrifice.

Just some ideas. Hope that helps! Good luck!

OP: You love being a case manager? If so, why are you pursuing FNP? I think the above poster has given you some options to use if you choose to continue with FNP. On the other had, if FNP is not your heart's desire for your career, I would choose (without hesitation) the MSN in CM route. The degree will not necessarily allow for a bigger pay check, but you will achieve goals to further your career as a CM and careers that are CM related, and/or Management.... Good Luck!
