Canadian RN Exam

Hi,

prepare yourselves for a terribly long wait to get results. As it stands, it's going on 8 weeks since I wrote the exam in June. I never was convinced that I passed it and was hoping to re-write if need be on Aug.10. This deadline is approaching quite soon and I've got to say that I'm quite disgusted at how long this is all taking. There were only 30 short-answer questions on the exam...what's the hold up?? UH :angryfire

Hi Scott, thanks for your comments. I'm also dreading taking the exam. Presently, I'm actually waiting to find out when I'll be sitting the exam.
I'm having to travel from England to Vancouver so that kind of makes it more stressful. I've also started looking at NCLEX books and I see what you mean about technical. Anyway, I'll just keep going and hope for the best. When are you sitting the exam? Good luck with it.

My D-Day is Feb 8th in Vancouver. I have just passed the RNABC assessment so now only need the CRNE. Health Match BC are helping me with a job - they have been really helpful so far - have you contacted them?

Gee I took mine on June 8 as well but we were told not to expect the results until the first to middle of september. According to the CRNE web site, the results will be mailed in 8 weeks to the provincial boards and it is up to them to deliver the results to us. They told us at the start of the exam to expect a wait of about 12 weeks. That is a long time.

I actually thought the short answers were easier. :confused:

Yes...we were told 9-13 weeks. But really - why?

There were only 30 mulitple choice questions. Is it so hard to mark them?

I think that the system is faulty here. There should be no reason to wait so long. I know that the people writing before the short-answers waited 4-5 weeks. I paid double for this exam - $400 - something dollars. Was I paying for service? No, I was paying for "volunteer" nurses to be flown to Ontario for an all-inclusive trip to mark the short-answers starting 2 weeks ago. And this to me is a crock of ****, pardon my language. I'm wondering...what were those exams doing for the 5 weeks prior? Sitting in a box in some warehouse?? Something is not right here, ya' know what I mean?

Thanks for the reply, I've just logged on to the Health Match BC site and completed the online form. I'm trying to decide when to take the exam. I believe there are dates available in Oct 2005 and Feb 2006. I have to say, I've no idea how to prepare for the exam! After working my way through the CRNE Prep guide it appears they could ask just about anything about anything. I don't know if it would be best to try and work there on an Interim Permit if a job was in place. I've noticed you're in Manchester, I'm just down the M62 in Liverpool. I'm presently working Recovery at Whiston. I'd appreciate any info you could offer regarding experiences of the whole process (Nursing job applications/immigration etc). I decided I wanted to try and move to Canada earlier this year and it's taken me till now to get to this stage - trying to firm up employment. I visited Vancouver in May of this year and I love it there, very friendly,easy going and beautiful place. Anyway, if you any news get back to me, I'd appreciate a fellow students input we seem to be going through the same thing right now. Regards, Jamieson.

Anaphylaxis - I hear ya! I wrote my exam on June 8th as well, in Toronto. It was 9 weeks from yesterday and still no results!!! I think it's ridiculous that the next exam write was yesterday...the least they could do is make it possible for those who need to rewrite to do so sooner than later (October, I believe). The short answer questions were ridiculous - I didn't find them easy at all. They were very ambiguous, and there could have been a number of right answers. Who knows...many of us new grads are quite scared of failing it. In which case, I would have to take a leave from my new job. Anyway, looking at the bright side, I hope I get the results in a couple weeks because I am going crazy!!! :uhoh3:

Today I finally received the result of CRNE! I have done it! The result "PASS"!

What about other people, who took exam on June with those awful "new short answer questions"?

Congrats OVG and all the others who passed!! I also passed and I've got to say it's the best feeling in the world. I was really worried and I think worrying for almost 10 weeks created a huge weight on my shoulders...it's now gone.

I took mine June 8 in Calgary and JUST got the pass result yesterday September 9 (OK the postal system in rural USA stinks).

I liked the short answer questions ... :imbar

you mentioned about the short answe questions? is it hard? or was it like identification or more of a problem solving approach. my exam is nearly two weeks and i dont think that im so ready for it. pls help me.thanks

the short answer questions are more about identification. Define so and so. What are the symtoms of this and this. Give 3 signs of blah blah blah. Know your diseases, your procedures and some creative thinking and you should be fine.
