Advice for getting hired at UCSF for RN -- Clinic positions...Anything???

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings! I am a new member to the forums an RN of 25-years looking to get hired at UCSF, preferably as a Clinic Nurse, which is where my recent experience is in. So far months of applications have resulted in several interviews but no offers (although I did make it to the final round in at least one of them). I did get hired briefly last fall into a Temporary/short-term position on a research project, which has now ended.

My experience includes....Med/Surg, Psych units; Clinic Nursing (in a variety of areas, including: Primiary Care, Orthopedics, ENT, Neuro, Geriatrics, Dermatology, etc) and have experience as a charge nurse and, briefly, as a Nurse Manager in an Assisted Living Facility. I'm also a graduate of UCSF's BSN Nursing Program. I'm a hard worker, children are grown so I have a flexible schedule, and I am fully computer literate.

I would really love to hear from any other RN's who are working at UCSF or have at one point worked at UCSF (especially in the ouptatient clinics). I would love to get some background on how you obtained your position there and if you enjoy working at UCSF. And of course, if hear of any openings, would love to know about them.

Thanks much,

Diane

It sounds like you are a good candidate with all your experience. It also sounds like you need to look at your resume and references with a critical eye. There is a nursing shortage and UCSF is not immune. They have travelers there just like many other hospitals. Maybe you need to use different references. Something is causing a red flag. Are your interview skills adequate? Practice with a friend. Review a management textbook section on hiring interviews. I was hired at UCSF as a new grad without any difficulty.

Good luck
