NUR 191 at GCC this summer

I was just wondering if anyone has taken it and if so what to expect. Im expecting it to be fast paced seeing as it is only 16 days long but i was wondering what the testing schedule is like(i.e. how many days apart) and what the clinicals are like. If you dont know it by the course ID it is the LPN bridge class that you can take after completing blocks 1 and 2. I am taking it this summer so that I can work as an LPN :nurse: as I finish blocks 3 and 4. Thanks in advance for any input.

LPN bridge program? I was told that you could bridge right into block 3 after finishing the fasttrack program. They didn't mention another class that had to be taken in between. I don't plan on working as an LPN so I'm not going to take the licensing exam. I need to keep my CNA job at the hospital while finishing blocks 3 and 4. I start the LPN program in August.

Anymore info about this is greatly appreciated. The advisors at GCC don't seem to know anything specific about any of the programs, only basics to getting accepted.

Im sorry I may have confused you I dont think its actually called the LPN bridge program and I am not in a fast track program.I am in the RN program currently and will be moving into block 3 in the fall but I wanted to take this class to keep up on the curriculum and begin to work as an LPN during block 3 and 4. I f you are in the LPN program you wont have to take that class...the only reason we do is because some of the curriculum you will cover in block 2 (i.e. OB and Peds) we dont cover until block 3 so we have to take this class in order to be able to take the NCLEX-PN. Okay, that makes sense. Someone was telling me that in the LPN program you wouldn't get all the info that the RN program teaches in blocks one and two, but the advisors say you do and bridge with no problem into block three, so I was a bit worried. I think it's great that you want to work as an LPN while finishing up schoo. Any leads on jobs? I hear LPN jobs are hard to find.

Thanks for clarifying! I need to just be happy I'm in ANY nursing program at this point since the waits are so long and the Banner program I planned to apply to next week seems to have gone away. Thanks again!!

There are 2 LPN's in my class and they say there are plenty of jobs in but mostly in long term care and home health. One of the clinical sites I went to in block 1 told me they hire new grads also so I am hoping all of this is really true.

hi trina,

im thinking about the gcc nursing program. all classes have been previously completed except for nursing classes. my question is in the nursing classes do they have you write papers or is it all exams? also do you have time to work while in the program?

In my program we had to write two small papers per semester, nothing special just about a page long each. I have worked part time about 25 hours a week and it does make it harder because you dont have time to read the hundred-something pages they assign each week but I survived. We had 6 exams this semester plus the HESI and the final so to answer your question yes majority of your grade comes from exams. I actually just took my block two final today and got a 98% :yeah:yay!

when is this class being offered? I finish block 2 on August 9th.

Im not sure if it is offered in the Fall. I know GCC, GWCC, and PCC are offering it. GCC has it in May, June, and July.
