Hey Guys,

Who is starting nursing school this fall at Jeff State -Shelby campus?

Please introduce yourselves.

I will start...

My name is Adriana...I'm a single mom of three beautiful kids, 9, 7, and 6.

Right now I'm talking Anatomy 2 and history...can't wait to finish with these pre-reqs.

Congrats to all of you who got accepted in the program :yeah:, and can't wait to get to know you all.

We are all in this together :D

Hey all...how are you doing in the program?? Those of you who started Fall 08??

I have a question, when did classes actually start...end of August or first few weeks of September? I am trying to get all of my financial ducks in a row to start Fall of 09. ALSO, what is your schedule the first semester like...even the first few weeks that classes start? What could I go ahead and buy that I will need...Uniform, shoes, stethoscope etc???

THANKS!!!

I started fall 2008. Things are going well. We started class on August 18th. The first couple of weeks/month are crazy. You feel like you are trying to take a sip of water from a fire hydrant. Just know that is how it is and everyone feels the same way. You would be doing yourself a huge favor if you learned how to do medicine calculations (Calculate with Confidence, Gray Morris) before school starts. You will have a calculations exam and if you make a 90 or above you passed and don't take anymore. (10 people out of 68 passed the first one in my class)Below a 90 and you have to take another exam and a final. We lost quite a few of our classmates on the calculations. Another heads up would be Medical Terminology (Exploring Medical language) You will have a test every 2 weeks on 4 chapters. Good luck....I would love to answer any questions. School is challenging but the learning is great!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have already started "calculate with confidence"

is "Exploring Medical Language" the name of the book?

AGAIN, THANKS so so Much!!!

yes, it was the one we used. 6th edition but that may change but medical terminology is not going to change. Each test is worth 25 points. You spend hours studying the 4 chapters and then there are 25 words out of hundreds on the test....Some books have CD's in the back and you can load the chapter into your ipod and study that way.

Does anyone know if these shifts we do during clinicals are at any point paid? Seems like we'll be putting in 15-20 hrs per week come 4th sem? Also, does the 5 term plan include summer or is it just fall/spring. Sorry, i'm out of the loop :(

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.
