Jeff State admissions/orientation timeline

I'm currently waiting to find out if I've been accepted to the night/weekend program at Jeff State, and was wondering if any current/past students could help give me a general timeline on when we need to get all of the "stuff" that we need to do before entering the program done. I know we need to do a background check/drug screen/physical evaluation, but I'm wondering when we need to have those items completed by. I'm not concerned about the results, I'm just trying to determine when I'll need to look at scheduling these items as our summer schedule is a bit crazy (it will all be better before fall semester starts!) also, on the physical exam/vaccines... Since the part time program doesn't have clinicals until the second semester, do we need to have all of the shots prior to the program starting in fall, or just before clinicals? We're expecting our second child in October so I may not be able to get all of the shots until after the baby arrives. (Yes, I know it's not ideal to be pregnant but this was a very planned pregnancy and we have a great support system!) I've read a lot of posts that say we get this info at orientation, but I've read other posts that make it sound like the background check has to be done before orientation. Any insight? Thanks!

To my knowledge, the only thing required before orientation is that you have your background check completed. Drug screen, vaccinations and CPR will not be needed for n/w program until 2nd semester when clinicals start. It is advised that you not get your CPR certification too early because it is only good for 2 years and will expire before the program is over if you don't wait until 2nd sem. to complete.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the info! I didn't even realize we needed CPR but I'm glad you brought it up because mine just expired from when I got certified before our daughter was born... I'll probably get re-certified in early October before the new bundle arrives haha. Now I just need this 4-6 week wait to fly by!

Just remember the CPR certification has to be American Heart Association, and not just Red Cross ?

Thanks Jess! I'll make sure I get the AHA! I was going to do the class that Brookwood offers since that's what I did last time, but I can't remember who that was through... Good to know so I don't have to double up on it ;)

The one I know for sure that is AHA is offered at the Hoover fire department. It's fairly inexpensive too!

Anyone know the list of vaccinations we need? Not looking forward to those, but I want to get them out of the way!

I'm not sure of them all, but I know they will draw a lot of blood first to check your titres. A lot of people I know have had to get the full series of hep B, flu, and TDAP. Chicken pix is in there too, but a lot of people are already immune. You won't know exactly what you need until they do your physical and check your blood. That's my understanding anyway ;)

Another bit of friendly advice for you:

Be sure and take a healthcare provider course. I too am AHA CPR AED certified until 2015 but will have to do a healthcare provider course. Most likely I will take it at the Hoover Fire Dept. I believe it's offered the 1st and 2nd Sat of every month and is ~$20.
