Calhoun vs. UAH

U.S.A. Alabama

I'm trying to decide which program to go for (I'll probably try for both anyway) and would like some input. Between Calhoun and UAH, which do you think has the better nursing program and why? What's your opinion on the instructors and how well do you like clinicals?

For those of you that chose UAH, how difficult is the program? I've looked at the course curriculum, and the 1st and 2nd semesters look particularly rough because of Patho/Pharm being taken with 2-3 other classes. I'll be working at least a couple days a week on top of taking classes and would like to keep an A/B average because I eventually would like to go on to get my MSN, so.. I'm a little worried. What do you guys think?

Got my acceptance letter a few weeks ago, I got in to the RN-MSN program, can't wait to get started!

Is the HESI A2 required for admission to UAH's program? I looked on their site but didn't see if it was or not. I am also taking my pre-reqs at Calhoun and am nervous about applying and getting in next year. My GPA is a 3.4 but hopefully I can bring it up higher to be more competitive. Thanks and good luck to all who applied for fall!

Personally I chose CC because of the price difference.. I just can't afford UAH on my own. I have heard many different opinions.

From the UAH side I've heard that they just require you to know too much information, not enough skill. Calhoun recently changed some of their techniques and like another user said, their pass rates have increased. I've also heard that Calhoun has become more hands-on - which is great for me, personally - but I'm not sure there's a huge difference between CC and UAH in that department.

As far as the actual degrees, I don't blame students for getting their ADN, getting a job, and getting the hospital to pay for theit BSN. I might even try that route... it's logical to me because I just don't have the means of paying huge amounts of money per semester. I can see how the hospital staff might not like that, but the ones I've heard complaining about aren't the ones who actually hire, therefore they have no say! I've had other Hsv Hospital staff tell me they prefer CC students. Supposedly UAH students have had very poor case study type experience in the past, and that's one area where CC students excel.

Thanks for the info. I am just really nervous, lol. I am especially worried about being able to find a job in this area when I graduate and had heard that some places prefer a bachelor's degree because of people using the tuition assistance and leaving. I do like the flexibility Calhoun offers though and will probably try to enter the part-time program instead. Have you heard anything about the job market for Calhoun grads?

Has anyone applied for nursing at UAH for Fall 2014? If so do you know when acceptance letters go go? Thank you in advance
