I agree nursing school is NO JOKE. Considering I already have a BA degree I can compare how this school is run compared to the other Jr. College I attended before moving on the U of A. Bevill was my 3rd college I have attended and the nursing program there was run like ours was the first class they ever had. Half the time the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. Many times the classes or clinicals seemed to be thrown together. I understand "things" happen, but "things" seemed to happen way too often.

Just because I graduated the program does not mean I'm going to blow smoke up someone's ass and tell them that Bevill is the best program in the State. People ask me a question, I do like I always do, I give them an honest answer. The entire time I was in the program I kept hearing that Wallace and Jeff St. were on the verge of having their nursing programs put on suspension, then I discovered that Bevill is the one that is on the verge. That info comes straight from the Al Board of Nursing website. With the dismal NCLEX pass rate Bevill has had lately, including the last class, I think we should keep our fingers crossed we actually pass it.

I am starting my 3rd semester and I will admit everything you've said is 100% correct. I know someone who scored a mid C on a test last semester, when test review comes around she found out it didn't read the scantron correctly and her real grade was a low A!! That's a huge difference! Also another classmate's grade posted on Blackboard was 6 points lower than what the scantron said (he discovered on test review day), he was told the higher grade was correct and it would be changed but it never was. He had to go back at the end of the semester and remind them to fix it. Stuff like that can make the difference between passing and failing. You have to fend for yourself and make sure things are done correcty. I have also heard of a teacher who refused to change a student's grade after finding out some right answers were counted wrong. I only have two semesters left and I hope nothing happens with Bevill that would cause their nursing program to be discontinued but if I had it to do over again I would have applied for another college. It is very frustrating how unorganized they are and you can't believe anything they tell you. Nobody knows what is going on until last minute.

I really hate that. School is frustrating enough and too expensive for the students to have to make sure the staff is doing their jobs. It really bugs me when someone that has never attended college before talks about how great Bevill is. Bevill is definately not the norm for colleges. Just like Jeff St's math dept is not the norm for college level math classes. Jeff St prides themselves in being the hardest math program, on the Jr. College level. Getting a C a Jeff St rather than an A or B at another school can really make the difference in your gpa when applying to a program at the Univ level. They could not care less where you took your classes, they just look at your GPA.

I have been accepted into Bevill's ADN program for the fall semester. From what I have heard from students that have attended for several semesters, Bevill is taking steps to improve their NCLEX scores. They realized they were not covering some important information that was on the NCLEX, so they have taken steps to change that. I know several people that have graduated from Bevill, some RN and some LPN, and they've had no problems passing the NCLEX or finding jobs. I can't wait for fall semester to begin!

Congrats on your acceptance. As far as finding jobs go..... My class graduated in May and so far less than 1/4 of my class has been hired. Luckily I had some inside pull to get on at UAB. Everybody else is putting in applications for every position that they can find and still no luck. One guy is considering going back to driving a truck because his family is going broke with him not working.

Jgroves02 when did you find out you where accepted?

I received my acceptance letter June 9th for the Jasper campus. They mailed out all the letters on June 7th or 8th. They send out rejection letters if you don't get in, and they were sent out at the same time.

This thread is really old, but it's still one of my favorites. It deserves to be bumped with new comments added. Anyone else have an opinion about Bevill State's Nursing Program?

This thread is pretty old, but I haven't had any luck finding anything more recent. Just wondering if anybody knows about when we might hear about acceptance for 2013?
I placed "advanced" on TEAS-V & have a 3.76 GPA. Considering the vast accomplishments of other applicants, I'm pretty worried about getting in. If anybody else out there is going for Bevill, or has any advice, all comments are greatly appreciated!! The wait is such a struggle! :-)
