Acceptance letters for Shelton state fall 2011

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi Everyone,

I was just seeing if anyone has received there letters from Shelton State for fall 2011? The waiting is killing me let me know if any of you have received your letter from Shelton State.

I was wondering the same. I tried looking on the companies website that we are ordering them through, but I couldn't find a size chart. Have y'all heard any pro's/con's about their program? I did hear from a lady that is over hiring at DCH that they prefer Shelton over UA nursing students because we get more one on one b/c the program is smaller.

I have heard good things about their program. I am really excited and could not be happier.

As for sizing, I heard that the sizes are big. I thought I might need x-tra small but I really don't want it to come back super tight or something. That would not be good. Same for the lab coat. I don't want it to be in my way but I don't want it where I can't bend my arms either, ha ha! I could not find anything on the company's site either.

I've heard that xs is about 0-2, which same as you, I hope it's not too tight bc I'm a 2. I was debating on petite pants or regular but i guess I'm going with regular and will get them altered if they are too long.

I was told (when I went there yesterday) that they will have uniforms for us to try on the 7th, so don't fill out the sizes yet. As to the question of how many applied, I don't know but it has been between 400-600 the past few years. They take 50 for the ADN program and 50 practical. The woman in the office yesterday copied some of the forms for me, since I haven't recieved my packet but mine don't say anything about the CPR certification really. Have you all already been certified? Will the school offer us a chance to become certified through them?

From what I understand, it is our responsibility to take a healthcare provider level CPR training before our 1st day of class on the 22nd. I signed up online on the hoover fire dept. Page. I think it is offered 2 times a month and the cost is $20. It fills up quick though because of all the nursing students trying to get it done.

Oh, and thanks for the uniform info! I thought we would be able to check them out first.

The lady in the office copied me some of the papers from the PN packet (instead of the RN packet) yesterday because that was all she had (the regular office clerk was out). I was just about to sign up for the background check but I noticed that the school code on my paper ended in pn. Should my code end in rn instead? I just tried calling the office and noone picked up. If any of you could help me that would be great because we are suppose to have it done before tomorrow and now I'm stressing all over again. : )

I got certified at Training USA in Tuscaloosa. You can sign up on their website. I'm not sure how often they give the class but they also fill up fast.

I just signed up for a CPR class given by the red cross and held at the University Mall on July 16. It cost $110 though, which is more expensive than other places but with gas prices it makes more sense for me than driving to Birmingham or somewhere else. Anyone else going to be there?

I still haven't heard back from the school about the background check school code. Maybe my packet will have arrived in the mail today.

Meghantk, did you make sure it was healthcare provider level CPR class and not just regular CPR course? And if I can remember when I get home I will look in my packet and post the school code.

Thanks Lpr0711,

I finally actually recieved my packet this evening in the mail so I was able to get the right code. I'm glad I waited for one I knew was correct because the one on the paper she copied for me yesterday was wrong. Anyway, that's finally taken care of. I did check the red cross cpr listing, I found it by searching through the redcross site specifically for one's that are for health care providers. It was called CPR and AED for the professional rescuer but I think I'll call tomorrow just to make sure. I'm kind of parnoid that something is going to get messed up or I'm going to do something wrong : ) I haven't had a chance to really go over my real packet yet, and there seems to be so much!

lpr071,

I just read through everyone's posts again and noticed where you said you're coming to nursing from marketing. I can understand the big switch. I'm an older student (Thirty-two), and I've been to several schools and was a senior English major. I decided after moving to Tuscaloosa to take a COMPLETELY different route and do nursing. I just didn't think I wanted to teach English and didn't know what else to do with an English degree. I decided nursing would be a good fit. I've spent the last year cramming in all of my science courses at Shelton (because English majors Don't need much science), and now I'm finally going to be able to get my ADN. I think I'm setting a world record for the one in school the longest to only recieve an associates degree : ) But I can't wait and I'm so proud of myself. I try not to think too much about how many years it's going to take me to get my bachlor's and then masters. I hope we both find our place in nursing. :nurse:
