about jeffstate, inquiring minds want to know.....

hey!

i have an application in for the fall at jeffstate, and have all fingers and toes crossed that i will get in.

however, i've read a lot of posts about students flunking out over the "math". are we talking

algebra or basic mathematical calculation? are you allowed a calculator during exams? do the

teachers go over what they expect u to know or are you flying by the seat of your pants?

i'm very excited but have heard some horror stories. one was that one teacher gave a lecture , the test on the lecture material was given and graded by another teacher. everyone in the class got around a 60 because 2nd teacher did not think that answer given were correct though they were exactly what 1st teacher lectured.

i don't know if this is actually what happened but was what was told to me, and is just one of many rumors

about the nursing program that i have heard, many of which make me break out in a cold sweat--uhg!

Jeff State's pass rate on the N-Clex, very good. Pass rates in the classroom- not so much. IF you make it through and graduate, you'll probably do well on the N-CLEX, and I emphasize IF. The math isn't so bad, you get 3 attempts to pass with a 90 or above in 1st and 2nd semester and you are allowed a calculator. However, I believe that you only get 2 attempts past 2nd semester. I know so many people who have failed their program for various classes, math in 3rd semester, clinicals, etc. (Including myself, and I already have a B.S. from UAB in another field.) I'm trying to go back elsewhere and I would recommend anyone else do the same for a better chance at graduating. If I was going to go back to Jeff State's RN program at all, I would go for the night/wknd program-- I hear the pass rates and instructors are better.. Hope this helps :) Also, keep in mind that passing at Jeff State is 75 or better, at UAB nursing programs it is a 70. It is sooo rough when you fail with a 74. :(

The math tests that you are required to pass are on basic drug calculations, very easy. The teachers tell you exactly what you need to know. When I went to Jeff State we had 2 times to pass with a 90 every semester.

Jeff State's nursing program is not hard if you put the time in to it to study and not be an idiot. Anyone can pass anything if they put their mind to it IMO.
