yet more UK nurse to canada questions!! sorry but really lost!!

Hi, for the last 6 months i spent alot of time looking into and beginning the process of moving to america and being with the majority of my family who live there, however after several contacts and phonecalls etc I know due to the nursing retrogression it is looking highly unlikely that i am going to be able to fullfill this.

It has been extremely upsetting however I am more than 100% certain i will not give up on starting a new and better life for myself, husband and children and with alot of thought I am now considering canada as an option.

I currently love in glasgow, UK and as im sure you will all know the quality of life is not want i want for my kids, i want them to have a better lifestyle and more opportunities in life.

I have been a qualified RGN since september 2008, i am 25 years old, my husband is a UK citizen citizen but originally turkish, my son is 3 years old and we have one more on the way.

I have a good idea of the process with regards to the exams that i need to sit etc however i still have a few questions.

Due to being pregnant with my son in my last year of university i only completed my diploma in adult nursing, therefore is this recognised in canada or will i have to complete my degree before moving over?

i understand canada is like america with regards to the requirements of meeting canadian nursing with paeds,obsterics,mental health hours etc. As I am UK university trained you will know i do not meet these requirements, how can i therefore meet them in order to obtain my canadian nurse licence?

Lastly my family live in the Amish area of Lancaster, pennsylvania, i just love it! ( makes me upset to think i wont be living there) i would like too live somewhere in canada quite similar.

I would be looking at ontario, nova scotia as would be closer for visiting family in PA and them visiting us and therefore i am looking for some advice from nurses who have moved here and can recommend nice areas.

We would be looking for a nice quiet, family friendly area, good schools, rural but not too rural, close enough to get places and do things but far enough away if that makes sense.

To get an idea of Lancaster, PA, its around 2 hours drive from the large city of philadelphia, lancaster itself is a small city, with rural suburbs, my family live about 30mins drive from lancaster city. Its rural enough to have very spaced out houses, no public transport but close enough to jump in the car and go to the shopping malls etc.

we will of course be planning a holiday to canada to look at different areas at some point next year however having a list of potential areas would be perfect.

I can certainly comment on NS as we love it here. I live about 50 mins from the border of NB and 2 hours from Halifax. It is a quiet community and I live very rural which is what we wanted and drive approx 25 mins to work.

Each province has their own requirements on what is required but for a majority if recently trained prefer BSN however I think NS may accept diploma. My suggestion is contact the NS college of RN and speak to them. I had to make up some courses and was able to do them here in NS and you may be able to do the same on a student visa but will need to show support whilst over here as working on a student visa is limited.

thankyou silverdragon, I had firstly tried to PM you as noticed you live in NS and have commented on quite a few posts, however being a new member i could not. I definately think NS is an option for us, areas look beautiful. i will certainly contact the NS college of RNs. Can i ask being on a student visa, could i work as a nursing assistant? do you know how long it takes to meet the requirements? and a rough idea of cost. Could i also them apply for my peremenent residence whilst being on a student visa without having to return to the UK?

could you confirm if i have this right please.

apply for student visa

meet the requirements

apply for candian RN licence, sit CRNE exam, obtain licence.

apply for jobs and perment residence visa.

do i have that right?

lastly if i went on a student visa what visa would my husband have? would he be able to work?
