This thread is about current trends in the Nursing field in Australia in relation to 457 visa sponsorships for Overseas-trained Nurses

How has it been after getting registered from AHPRA? Have you got any job offers yet? Any difficulty finding an employer who could sponsor 457 visa?

No job offers yet. I read that you got 3 interviews already and finally landed a job. Any tips or advice? Like do we use job sites like seek.com or careerone or go directly to the hospital's recruitment page like nsw.erecruit? And by the way any advice on answering the selection criterias because im having a really hard time on that aspect.. I have also read in one of your post to search on google or youtube in improving your CV, which I followed but still got no response from employers. I am also considering applying for permanent residency already since its getting really harder to get 457. I will follow the state nomination pathway ro compensate for the 5points i lack on experience. I got short of experience because they require 36 months and i only have 34 months

I did try applying for jobs using the job sites and I got call backs pretty quick.It's either in Aged care or they would ask you for work rights upfront. I would suggest you go to each hospital website and try calling the HR, ask for RN vacancies and how to directly send your application to the NUM. The importance of writing your selection criteria cannot be overstated. You really don't have to write an essay to each point but rather make it straightforward and easy to read.

Just remember Oz CVs are quite different from what we learned back in the uni or from what we usually make. I had mine, 2 pages and just the right information the employers needed to know.

Visa came through after 3 weeks since nomination got approved!! 4 years baby!!=))

just a little bit of info. In addressing the selection criteria, they would want you to actually specify the:

a. relevance and/or importance of the criteria to your nursing practice

b. state examples on how you meet this criteria

well, this is just my point of view actually, coz that's what I did when I was looking for jobs and I had good results.

also, if you think there are information that could help your application but don't know where to put it, write a cover letter. You can write a 1-page letter stating why they should hire you, your strengths, and even your concerns (e.g visa sponsorship, etc).

Experienced overseas RNs are having difficulties finding work sponsorship. Fresh grads? close to impossible to be honest. There are a lot of Australian new grads and they are having a hard time finding work as well. I suggest you gain more RN experience first of at least 2 years.

UPDATE: 457- sponsored for 4 years, on my 2nd year now. Working in the public health sector but unfortunately, the hospital is no longer able to sponsor for Permanent Residency Visas since the beginning of the year. My other colleagues, who applied through the hospital since Dec 2014 have had theirs rejected when the policy came about during the DIAC turnover last February.

Have you heard of the same thing in your hospital?
