Getting RN Registration in Massachusetts 4 an Aussie

hi from australia!

my husband is from phoenix and although we are currently living in australia, we are planning on returning to the usa next year.

the bad news is that we are not sure which state his company will send him to in the usa so i don't know which state to apply for the nclex exam.

is it possible for me to apply in any state now for permission to sit the exam and then we move to a totally different state when we arrive?

the whole idea of needing permission to sit the exam sounds a bit like pre school to me but then i guess rules are rules.

thanks guys! :nurse: :D

You are not applying for NCLEX but to be a RN and NCLEX is just a part of that process.

You still need to meet requirements and what we have seen as some Australian nurses being deficit in some hours mainly Obstetrics to meet requirements. Some states require a US SSN to submit an application. At least obtaining a immigrant visa is easier for you seeing as married to a USC

That is one thing I am annoyed at with regards to the NCLEX.

I have never worked in maternity and never will. Considering I have my Master's in Critical care, and have no ambition of leaving the specialty, I find it quite annoying that I have to relearn maternity again after not doing it for 16yrs since I was a student just so I can gain registration to continue ICU nursing in the USA.

But US nurses are trained generally and the state expects you to be general trained. They don't know where you are going to work or specialise in This is the same as Canada and many UK nurses are having the same issues as Australian nurses.
