Why do we give up so easily!

Why is it so easy to give up? A lot of people including myself want success but fear it at the same time. It's like we see the sunshine but allow the rain to come through and just get us wet. Lol. Is it just a mind game? How can we overcome this?

Hopefully, this topic helps Pre-Nursing students overcome their fears of becoming a successful nurse.

[h=4]it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,

talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other

people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of

God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,

we unconsciously give other people

permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.

Simple: We Don't! We acknowledge these fears, then rise above them. Let them be your biggest motivator. You can't let fear hold you back from the things in life you really want to do.

I have a fear of failing. Yet my desire to succeed trumps those fears. I Will pass each semester of nursing school, I Will graduate with my cohort, I Will pass the NCLEX, and I Will be an amazing nurse....thank you fear!;)

Not everyone can be whatever they want to be. It's the truth. Some people really do need to give it up. I'm talking about the dreamers who can't even read at a 6th grade level or do basic pre-algebra no matter how hard they try. Half of the population has a below-average IQ.

Not everyone can be a doctor. Not everyone can be a nurse. Not everyone has the brainpower to earn a degree. The value of college degrees will continue to drop if too many unqualified people keep getting them through grade inflation.

There's a service sector that needs cooks, shift managers, servers, hotel clerks, maids, waiters, dishwashers, et al.

817nurse I agree with you to a certain point. No, not everyone has the mindset to become a doctor, nurse and etc. However, I believe that anyone can do anything they set their minds to *if* you have the discipline and internal fortitude to achieve.

I strongly disagree with you. At a certain point it is not about mindset, it is about cognitive capability. Cousin Jimmy with an IQ of 75 isn't going to be the next great cardiothoracic surgeon no matter how badly he wants it and works for it. We do people a disservice by removing this sometimes harsh bit of reality in favor of the more politically correct "work hard, follow your dreams, etc..." That being said, there is a role for everyone and it's up to us all to support the people in finding their spot.

Gosh - US culture includes a pervasive myth .... that hard work & dedication can overcome all obstacles, but that is just not true. We are all hardwired with a unique set of abilities that cannot actually be changed. No matter how much effort I put in to it, I will never be 6 feet tall. I have no ear for music. I am directionally challenged - thank heavens for GPS!

Likewise, some people are just not hardwired to understand math or science. Some folks are absolutely incapable of the multi-tasking that is necessary to manage the care of patients. It's not correlated with overall intelligence & does not mean that they are "less".

"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid".... Albert Einstein.

Maybe I should have cleared this post up enough. People get off your high horse. This post had nothing to do with IQ's or learning science and math for that matter. It was encouragement post. Letting Pre-Nursing students know it's a light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone has self- doubt. In my original post, I never stated anything about any and everyone can do nursing. I was only trying to give encouragement to the one's who really want it. This was not a debate post. I could care less what you agree or strongly disagree about with all respect.

If you post on a public message board, you're gonna get comments. And you won't like all of them. Sorry.

Red Kryptonite It was to be expected, however, it went off topic quickly.

When we post something on a public internet forum, we take the chance that some of the replies will be off-topic, against our personal beliefs or in total disagreement of what was originally posted. It's the nature of the beast. :)

I agree. People on here complain about people not being "supportive" when they say they want to quit. I say if you want to quit..quit! No one is stopping you. Ofcourse it is easy to quit for some people. For me it would be harder to quit because I would not accept that from myself. Many people develop patterns of quitting things when it becomes difficult..and that is how they deal with any challenge. You either push through or quit. What else is there to say? Neither way is right or wrong. It just IS. Who am I to tell someone they should or should not quit. I can state possible outcomes from either choice, but I cannot tell someone that not quitting...or quitting..is better or worse.

I actually think giving up is a VERY difficult process...sometimes quitting can be very beneficial; regroup recharge, and try again, whatever one may choose.

I gave up re entering an ADN program after I failed; it was the BEST thing I have ever done; I went on to thrive as a LPN for seven years, and have been an RN for over two years.

Sometimes it's worth trying again, or going in another direction; it will be up to the person traveling the journey.
