Jul 14, 201015 yr Nurses and paramedics who are checked off (i.e. starts 3 EJs and is checked off by the MD) can do them. Techs can start IVs, but not EJs.EJs are great. Very easy to do.
Jul 14, 201015 yr Same policy as Fribblet,....any nurse who's been trained and observed. BTW,.they are usually easier than peripherals.
Jul 14, 201015 yr I would think it is a money thing. The doc does the EJ so the client is charged more.
Jul 14, 201015 yr IV therapy and nurses who have been trained and checked off do the EJs in our small hospital.
Jul 15, 201015 yr I have only known a doctor to place an external jugular. I know I for one do not want anyone else perfoming this on me without alot of training and experience.
Jul 15, 201015 yr Nurses do it in my ER. If I have a Dr do it, then it's going to be a central triple lumen IJ.
