Where do the Happy Nurses Work?

Published

Hi-

I hope every one is doing well! I am due to graduate in June and was wondering where you like to work? What floor? And Why?

Thank you!

Specializes in UR/PA, Hematology/Oncology, Med Surg, Psych.

I'm a happy nurse, since I got my new position. I work in an outpatient speciality office. My co-workers are awesome, my patients friendly, and my job interesting. Plus no holidays and weekends. I am soooooo blessed.

Specializes in Tele, Infectious Disease, OHN.

I am a Happy Nurse. I work in an occupational health clinic for a municipality. It is totally my speed, (fast but not scary), hours are great (M-F 7-4) and very autonomous. Anytime I have a cocnern I can send them on to the doc. Lots of lifestyle education opportunites. We have employees who have insurance but cannot afford the copay on a regular basis and provide services to them they would not get otherwise. We have a lot of men who work very hard outdoors and sometimes all they want is to come into somewhere cool and have a conversation. This has led to many opportunites to assess general health, monitor BP, glucose, make referrals to EAP and heaven forbid get to know them and their healthcare concerns!! Then there are they guys who almost cut their leg off with a chainsaw, or get bit by a lion...:monkeydance::monkeydance:

Specializes in Brain injury,vent,peds ,geriatrics,home.

I think I just answered a similar question yesterday, but here goes again.I love my job am a nurse at a Residential center for kids with behavoiral issues.I work on a campus like area.Im responsible for kids 5 thru 16 yo .Ive done med passes in the garden, gym, pool, school, playground and a couple days ago,the Zoo!!Im independant, flexible, and love the autonomy of thejob .Very close to home and the money is good. What more could I want??HAPPY NURSE!!

Specializes in LTC/SNF, Psychiatric, Pharmaceutical.

I work at ZLB Plasma. I assess donor suitability and work with donors who are having adverse reactions. It is the best nursing job I have ever had, and pays well. I don't want to work in an in-patient setting ever again. I was burned out after years of LTC nursing when I hired on at the Plasma Center. No more nights, doubles, or handling nasty body fluids.

I wouldn't trade my job for any other nursing job. This is the first time I've been happy at a job in YEARS.

i loved working er, but now i'm in home health and have found another love.

Specializes in Public Health.

I'm a new Public Health nurse. I love it...as a previous poster said, "It's just my speed". There is a lot to learn and to know, but not really (immediate) life and death. I hope you find your niche.

M

Pediatrics. Get to play with kids. Talk trashy reality tv with teenagers. Hold babies. Makes up for all the work I have to do along with it.:)

OMG! Any openings? :lol2:

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Happiness is relative. For instance, a specialty that makes one nurse happy and thrilled to come to work every single day can serve to make another nurse miserable and cranky. We are all turned on by different interests.

I personally do not like babies or children, so I would be unhappy working in peds, L&D, postpartum, the NICU, or PICU. I do, however, enjoy being around the older population, so I like working on a fast-paced rehabilitation unit at a skilled nursing facility. I get to see elderly people become reconditioned, rehabilitated, more mobile, and discharged home to an independent lifestyle.

Specializes in SICU, EMS, Home Health, School Nursing.

I work in a very busy SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) taking care of critical medical patients, surgical patients, neuro patients and my favorite, trauma patients. I work with a great group of people!! Working with such a great group of people makes even the worst day bearable. You will never find the "perfect" job, but you will find the job that fits you :) There are flaws with ever job... take for example my job, I really dislike working weekends, but I put up with it because I really like my job. Like TheCommuter said, happiness is relative, what makes one person happy will not make someone else happy. It would be torture for me to work in a LTC facility, but for other people that is what makes them happy. You just need to find the right fit for you. During clinicals you will begin to figure out what areas you like and what areas you don't like.

Good luck in your senior year of nursing school and good luck on finding a job that is the right fit and makes you happy :)
