Wall of Shame

My facility is getting a new DON (I just quit). I've heard at her last facility she had what she called a "wall of shame" on which she would post pictures of nurses who had made mistakes. I am flabbergasted. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

I met the woman once...she was rude, overbearing, and condescending, but a wall of shame????

I've only ever seen pics of Nurse of the Month or Nurse of the Quarter.

Wow! That's incredible that she would even still HAVE a job.

A wall of shame? Interesting...

When I worked in middle nursing management, my mantra was to praise in public and critique in private. A wall of shame would serve as a very public criticism of those who made mistakes, which is totally uncool.

And that's why I'm leaving....same company that wanted me to have a points system for medication errors.... The more serious the error, the more points you'd get until you got enough points to be terminated. Nothing hostile about that work environmentí ½í¸Ÿ

That hat is why you as me feel an error or mistake, is a teachable moment, for improved care...

my best wishes for you...

I'm sorry to hear that you've quit. You were a valuable asset to that LTC. But I don't blame you one bit..I've quit facilities for a lot less.

Ah, one of those management types that can never quite figure out why their tires keep going flat.

This sounds like a lowdown blatant harASSment technique.

And I must protest to the fullest extent of my being.

If she does implement her "Wall of Shame" she won't have any staff working there. Let's see if she can keep HERSELF off her own "Wall of Shame" when she's having to work shifts AND be DON! What a loser and a poor excuse for a manager!

I am predicting a cessation in self-reporting med errors.

And just another example of the many things that has always given me the creeps about nursing whether specific to it or not.

I think specific to nursing as in Hey Dr. Schmuckman have you seen the wall of shame the medical director set up in the patient's entryway?"
