Please help I'm a LVN 4 units short of BSN from University of Phoenix. I missed my review final by 2 points. UOP will not release my transcripts for me to take the 30 unit option for the RN Nclex, my student loans are now due. Anyone have any advice how I can get around UOP and request to take RnNclex. I completed all clinical and classroom hours, minus the last test for API? Please please help

What is their reason for refusing to release your transcripts? ...assuming that's all you need. I wouldn't know.

If you are paid up with them, they have no reason to treat you this way, other than spite. Now, you know another reason why that school has a less than stellar reputation. The BRN is not going to help you if UOP will not cooperate by sending your transcripts. Try getting an official transcript on your own and then sending that. Who knows, maybe the BRN will accept it, even though you are the one transmitting it. Stranger things have happened. Best wishes.

If your are 4 units short of a BSN, I assume that means you didn't graduate and don't have a BSN? If that's the case, transcripts or not, you can't take NCLEX. The BON cares about the qualifying degree. Not just classes. Unless UofP has issued you a degree, then nothing can be done with the BON for making NCLEX. Try to retake whatever 4 units you are missing to complete the degree.

The state of CA has a policy whereby applicants can be authorized to take the NCLEX as "non-graduates". Of course they get that tainted CA license that is good nowhere else.

I didn't know UoP had a prelicensure program!

I thought they only had post licensure programs. If you didn't actually graduate, I don't see how you can sit for nclex. If I was 2 points short in my program, I failed the program.

I don't see how you think you can sit, even if you completed the clinicals. Failing is failing.

Reread the OP, and identifying info. She is attempting to get a CA license. This won't fly anywhere else and it may not fly in CA either, particularly if UoP refuses to send the CA BRN her transcripts.

If you're not in arrears with UoP (that is, you have no outstanding tuition payments), then there is no reason they can't send a transcript. I would contact them and ask why they haven't.

If you do owe UoP money, then they have every right to withhold the transcript until you pay any outstanding bill.

And I'm sure you're already aware, but I'll say it anyway: if you choose to go the 30-unit route to CA licensure, that license will only be good in CA and will NOT be able to be endorsed to any other state. So unless you're planning to stay/work in CA for your entire RN career, you may want to rethink taking this path.

Best of luck!

Others have already mentioned you might not be able to sit for the NCLEX if you didn't pass. Are you able to retake the class? Perhaps this might be the best option if all fails? I know it's more money, but the alternative would be no license with a degree that's a few credits short.

If they are not releasing they must have a very good reason and I am sure they explained it to you already.
