This is a placenta...

Trying to be empathetic, but I. Just. Can't.

I wish I knew what the writing said. But why? Why why why? That so doesn't translate well to a tattoo. It looks like an alien.

I need some context!!

There is no context. I found it on pintrest, with the title "Tattoo of Placenta." No backstory.

I'm guess that the writing is a baby's name, which is why I'm trying to be empathetic (perhaps memorializing :sorry:). Even so, you're remembering the baby, not the placenta! Why not sweet little baby footprints?

There's also no way that thing can be covered up, unless wearing a turtle neck. It's out there for the whole world to see.

I think placentas are awesome and amazing. I used to play...er...work with them all the time when I worked in perinatal research. Nevertheless, it would never occur to me to get one tattooed on my body. I guess it's better than some of the "art" I've seen, though.

Something Elliot Paighton Belle Juniper Doe (Dqo? Dae?)

I assume that's two different names and they were twins. Mo/di, apparently.

I love seeing the different thoughts! Haha!

Thanks!! I still think the placenta is too much. She should've gone with the traditional baby foot prints or birthdays. Or maybe the tattoo artist isn't that good.

I hear ya, placentas are pretty amazing (as are bodies in general). Perhaps its the size and placement that's throwing me off. People must ask her all the time to clarify what it is, though she might be enthusiastic to share her story.

*Sigh* I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

Most interesting tatt you've seen in your nursing career--might be an interesting forum topic (not sure if that would violate HIPPA). Hmm...

Looked like a jelly fish to me.

I dunno about everybody else but placentas (while amazing as y'all have pointed out) are also....creepy/gross to me for some reason.

Surely that cannot be the most memorable part of having a child.........

Maybe she tried to get that and the tat artist screwed up, and called it Placenta.

I would rather see someone cut open from top to bottom than see a placenta :barf02:

Or genital warts, funky toenails, pustules, you name it...placentas not so much!! LOL
