There won't be any raises this year

My sister & I are both nurses in different areas of practice at different hospitals in different communities, but both of our hospitals have told us that the staff will not get raises. Is anyone one experiening this at their hospitals? I've only been a nurse for a year now sp this would have been my first raise, but I won't be getting one at all now. There is a lot of frustration at my hospital over it. Recently, over a million dollars was spent to upgrade the orthopedic unit including all single rooms, flat panel TVs, a family room with cappicino machine and granite countertops through out the unit. They've also recently revamped out court yard; ripping out existing trees & putting more benches and lamdscaping. My coworkers are angry because the is money in the budget for those things, but not to give the nurse who work so very hard a cost of living increase. Any thoughts on this subject? Anyone with similar things happening?

We normally get our raises in April but this year they were moved to Oct IF the hospital could afford them. But if they don't I am going to be thoroughly upset because on my floor they all got new flat screen tvs and stuff. And its not like its a big raise anyway. Its only like 3%.

its happened where i work... hrly employees wages are frozen, but management got their big bonuses. we also are not having our 403 contributions matched, and there is big rumors about making our already crappy insurance more expensive and less coverage. this is bc "we're still very much in the red", but i have a friend of the family who is on the board and they disclosed to me that they have wrote off millions in charity care and still have millions is surplus. the board had no idea about wage freezes, etc till i mentioned it to him. oh and we used to get a small incentive check in the fall right before the holidays, well we arent going to get that bc staff and pt satisfaction has to be 100% in order to MAYBE get the incentive.... yeah, right, like thats going to ever happen!! :icon_roll

Hospitals, like all businesses, are cutting back on their expenses this year -- and salaries/benefits are the first to go. I know my hospital has not budgeted for any raises this year, but that they are looking for a little money to allow them to give a small raise in the fall.

Our census has started to go up a bit lately. If that trend continues, there may be enough for 1-2%. Who knows? Maybe the influenza pandemic will bring in a lot of extra revenue and there will be enough cash for a larger raise. That's the only hope we have of getting more than the (maybe) 1-2%. But I don't want the pandemic to be that bad.

I also work part time as a faculty member at a local university. There were no raised there this year, either. It's not just health care. Most employers are going to be hesitant to spend any money this year unless it is directly tied to bringing in more business.

Please note that also, like businesses, hospitals are financially complex. Money spent to buy LCD tv's and rennovate rooms usually can NOT be spent on raises. It's not that simple, legally. Taxes and legal uses of money are tricky things.

I would stop complain and be glad its not worse. They are threatening pay CUTS at mine.

We have cuts: in differentials, by 2%.

I have heard pretty much everywhere no one is getting raises. Perhaps next year things will be a bit better. Right now money is just so tight everywhere. Here they are raising our income tax starting in Oct. How does that make sense? We all just have to try and find a way to rid it through.

i don't work in the healthcare, but in my company they decided to wait to give our raises, one of my coworkers, threw the biggest fit ever, started crying, and saying that she feels un-appretiated and blah blah blah, i know it sucks, but i'm glad i still have a paycheck then not have a paycheck at all. jmo

That sucks. We're still meeting budget and I got a 4% this year. (Although I'm maxed out and really didn't get a raise, but I got the cash).

It's happening here in Tucson. I'm very discouarged because I'm still making new grad pay and I've been a RN for 15 months and have transferred off the floor and to the icu. I'm getting my rn to bsn right now and when I'm done I'm plNning on moving to Washington state. I figure the only way that I will see a pay raise is when i move out of state and to a new hospital. I hear were going another year without a pay raise. It's Been almost a year already with this wage freeze.

The chronic dialysis clinic I just left employees havent had raises in over 3 years now. :down: But thier profits are up lol.
