Terms we will not admit to using

  • Experts

You all have heard of them and of course we never actually use any of these terms but somehow they are there and everyone knows them.......

There the "unofficial" abbreviation list

like

FLK Funny Looking Kid

or

Craft syndrome - Can't Remember A Flippin' Thing

PFO - clean version - Potted (Drunk) and Fell Over

AHD - Acute Haloperidol Deficit

Or the pseudomedical jargon for describing patient peculiarities i.e.

Mononeuronis Asynapsis

Acute Pneumoencephalopathy (thanks TeeitupTom)

Acute Hyponicotaemia (busting for a cigarette)

Does anyone know anymore??

Okay can anyone add to this list

Twit, this is someone who is being a PIA, maybe extubating themselves in the unit or acting out in your LTC setting. They make you just want to get out the ativan for yourself or for them.

OK I love this one. An RN told me this one when I worked at the VA in TN.

Its called the tooth to Tattoo ratio:

If the pt has more Tattoos than teeth, than no matter what they won't die, and you can't kill them.

And oh it was soooo true! We had several pts that proved this to be true when I worked there. (not that I actually tried to kill someone, but you get the point).

Can't believe I haven't seen these:

AFU - All "fouled" Up (You know, those 23 weekers that were saved, and are now on the peds floor).

SGP - shallow gene pool

PIA, of course, but I guess we all use that one. I'm ashamed to admit that I have admitted more than my fair share of "trainwrecks".

Oh, I almost forgot, Vitamin "A" for Ativan.

SAS = "Sick as Sh**" I use this one frequently

DOV = Dead on Vent, for those that we are breathing for them, making their heart beat etc....

From when I used to ride as an EMT:

DILLIGAF=Do I look like I give a f***?

Rapid Deceleration Syndrome=MVA's

I came up with this one a long time ago, and now I can see how it can cross nursings path.

"King Boyfriend" syndrome---applies to a woman who puts her boyfriend and his needs first, far above what her kids need, to the point that her kids have to beg her to pick up groceries--and she still "forgets" to pick them up or only picks up the bare minimum (like just bread and mayonaise)for days and weeks at a time.

Not so good if she has a kid who needs insulin, or has severe asthma, and if she can't pick up the groceries, she will probably "forget" to pick up the medicine.

Vitamin "H" for haldol. B52 (5mg Haldol and 2mg of Ativan). Vitamin "X" for xanax.
