Something that I'm so SICK of hearing...

ya..it is annoying. my father in law was studying to be a nurse, he just told me its very demanding, but not hard. , but then again he is really really smart :)

is all about how HARD nursing school is. And Yes, I do understand that it is hard, BUT people are so negative! I told one women the other day that I was starting Nursing school soon and her response was "how daunting" What is that all about???

I have found people who have been so positive and think that it's wonderful but then there are so many people who are just so negative. I'm just sick of hearing it.

So for the universe to know.."I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE HARD! I DON'T CARE! I STILL WANT TO BE A NURSE AND NO..I'M NOT GROSSED OUT BY BLOOD!"

Same here, I get mainly negative respones....but I ran into one student who is ahead of me and is finishing her first semester (we were in Micro together last Spring), she said even though it's hard it's not as bad as everybody makes it out to be, she is doing fine. Also the other day by accident I had a conversation with a nice young lady who is aobut to graduate and she said the same, it's not all that bad!!!! I commented on her looking "normal" and not stressed out....she was dressed very nice, wore some make-up and looked well rested unlike what I would imagine a nursing student would look like, well, droopy and tired. I think it all depends on the individual, study habits and whatever else is going on in their lives etc. Both gave me alot of hope.....lots of hope that things will be ok! REmember, we will survive and make it!!!!!!

While I understand your vent, I respectfully disagree.

Prior to entering nursing school, that's all I heard is how hard it was. I know I'm a hard worker, I'm a go getter, and I didnt care how hard it was.

So, I entered my first semester in nursing school with a very unrealistic idea about nursing school in general. I come from the corporate world, no previous medical experiecnce at all.

The hardest part was just the transition from corporate world (working fulltime) to becoming a fulltime nursing student, and still being able to find a balance with home life, as well as all other areas of my life.

On top of that, the tests in nursing school were nothing I have ever experienced before. Not to mention, I'm a horrible test taker, but getting better.

I still manage to pull B's out of all my nursing classes. (BTW, a B is considered 85%-88% and a B+ is 89%-92%).

I disagree that nursing school is hard because I'm a "sissie". It's hard for me due to a transitional change that I really didnt know before hand that I couldnt adjust to.

With most things, I really don't tell people anything, they just have to see for themselves.

I've learned to pick and choose my battles in life, and I understand people just have to experience things for themselves so they can make a decision for themselves.

I've ran into negative people as well and I just do my best to stay away from them. If they get me on a bad day I'll look them straight in the eye and tell them (seriously) that I love being in school and just walk away to leave it at that. I agree that it does get annoying though.

I think people have the right to vent or give their oppinion no matter how negative it is, and people who do not want to see it just need to exercise their right to not read it! :wink2:

I am about to graduate nursing school and it was a lot of work and I can understand why people need to vent on here about it!

I'm not talking about on here in cyber space..obciosly this is like a support group.

I'm talking about people in my "real" life.

I'm in nursing school now and I am not so much tired of others complaints as I don't understand them.

I have never took a test and thought "I don't know it I passed".

I don't stress out over school and I haven't found it that hard.

I have two kids who NEVER let me study and so far, I have not failed one individual test nor have I made anything less than a B in nursing classes.

Some tests, I don't think I barely studied or that I knew anything, but I always pass. During the test and in clinicals things just make sense to me.

I feel blessed to be doing well and to understand everything so well.

Some people disagree, but I think being a CNA before school helped A LOT.

Anyway, everyone is different and maybe nursing school is hard, but so far I haven't found it that difficult.

Nursing school is hard!!:) And that IS NOT a negative comment, it's reality. It isn't necessarily the studying, it's everything that comes along with it. Anyway, I am having a wonderful challenge in my life right now, and it's so true......."Nothing good ever came easy" Peace and love!

I am actually enjoying nursing school...it can be challenging at times but it's not that hard. I tend to listen to my classmates and what I have noticed is that the ones who are having the most difficulty are the memorization freaks. In their previous academic experiences they were used to memorizing things and taking test based on recall and nursing school test are not made that way. NS test are based on critical thinking so if you can figure out a way to do that then you are basically set. There will always be some memorizing to do but it's really not all about memorizing everything.

I am lucky because I don't have to work and I have to say that while I don't get to do all of the things I used to do pre-NS I still get to have fun now and then. I don't spend everyday all day studying...right now I am eating ice cream as I post and I haven't touched a book all night. Not to say that I am a complete slacker because I am not. I have a schedule and I make time to study (just not every single day!) all my work gets handed in on time and I very rarely miss a class.

I like most of my classmates and I like to go to school. I am enjoying NS way more than I did undergrad.

One of the things I have noticed since I started was the respect I'm getting from my family members. There is nothing more rewarding than to hear my parents say how proud they are of me. Yes at 36, it still matters what my parents think of me. I guess having dropped out of school 15 years ago my senior year in college always daunted me, having that constant feeling of being a quitter was always riding on my shoulders. Even my children are proud, I feel I like I'm setting a good example for them although at times they do get frustrated when my nose is in the books instead of playing outside.

When I tell others I'm in nursing school, I also get the "I could never do that, or Wow nursing school is tough" but I thrive on that, knowing I can do it.
