(Preface: I'm new, so if this question has been answered a million times, I apologize! 😬😊) I am going to apply to STLCC's program at Meramec in the fall. I am hoping to work in a pediatric ICU setting or L&D. I know these are typically competitive positions, but I am wondering if any of the big hospital networks in the St. Louis area are hiring new ADNs in those units or if they will only hire BSNs. I would have to complete a few more prereqs before I could apply to UMSL or Golfarb's programs. If I do complete the program at STLCC, I will probably go almost immediately into an RN to BSN program right after. As as a little background, I do have NICU experience as a PCA but that was in 2009-2010. Just trying to to get some insight as this might way into my decision regarding which program(s) I pursue. Hello. I'm not asking for judgements or opinions here. I know what is at risk and I know things aren't worth my career and job. This is my 4th year being an RN and 3rd year at my current job. I attempted to get a state job prn and because I take prescription adderall and xanax of course there was positives, so they sent my urine to lab. Upon sending it marijuana was detected, faintly. I had used it months before, the actual panel cup used thc didn't even show up. Ultimately, I was of course denied the job and was turned into the board of nursing for marijuana use. I have a drug screen from ONE day prior from my doctors office that shows only my scripts were in my system. And it was also sent through my Dr's lab as well. Thc didn't show. What can I expect? I know this isn't anything to be taken lightly and honestly I'm freaking out. I have to mail my letter into them, I'm sending it off tomorrow. It was stupid and I know it was, but I can't change the past. Just wondering how these things usually work..

Is there anyone else possibly attending St Charles Community College in the fall for Nursing? If so what all have you heard about the program and etc? Or is there anyone that has completed the program and has a few things to say? Any help would be great! I applied last year so I'm pretty sure I'm getting in. Any help would be great!

I have submitted applications to multiple nursing programs around KC (UMKC being one of them)! The more I look into them, the more I am leaning towards UMKC being my top choice. I applied for their Accelerated BSN program. Any current students/recent grads want to share their experience?! I know NCLEX pass rates were below 80% the year before last, but have gone up to 87% since then. Additionally they have close to 1200 clinical hours their students are required to do. What is the class schedule/teachers like? Did anyone in the accelerated program work during this time? And when do they send out acceptance letters?? Thanks so much!!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and just had some questions for anyone that has done an accelerated program in Missouri. I recently graduated from Truman State University in fall 2015 and am in the process of applying to accelerated nursing programs in Missouri. So far I'm planning on applying to UMSL and Mizzou. I'm nervous that I won't get into a program because my GPA is only 3.38, but I still have to take statistics, microbiology, and physiology. I plan on taking statistics and physiology this summer, so I can hopefully raise my GPA to 3.40. Has anyone with a similar GPA been accepted into either of these programs? Are there any other programs I should look into? I want to apply to at least 3. I've looked at Goldfarb and SIUE as well. I would appreciate any help/comments!

I was looking at MCC's website to see what I need to do to apply for their nursing program. It says that the Compass Test is a requirement of all applicants...but I guess I'm a little confused. I have taken 60+ credit hours at KCKCC and will have my transcripts sent over. Will I still need to take the Compass Test at MCC even though I have already completed all the pre-requisite courses needed to apply? It just seems a little odd that I would have to take the Compass Test if I have already completed the college level courses required in order to apply. Thanks so much for helping me clarify this!

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has been through Mizzou's accelerated BSN program? I'm applying and was wondering how the process went for everyone/what my chances are for being accepted. There are a few posts on here about MIZZOU but they're from a while back. My GPA is 3.41 and I was wondering if that's competitive enough to get in. Thanks for any help!

Hi everyone! I am a new grad looking to move to St. Louis. It has been my dream to work in mother/baby;NICU;special care nursery etc.!!! (have not taken NCLEX yet) I am a recipient of the HRSA Nurse Corps Scholarship Program, which means I am required to work in facilities in a health professional shortage area. Under SSM Hospitals, cardinal glennon is the only facility that qualifies. I was looking into the futures program, but was unsure of how the process worked, especially with my particular situation. Would I be able to choose the facility I wanted to work in? Is the futures program the only way I would be able to get into the NICU at Cardinal Glennon? Thanks in advance!!!

Hello, After looking Chamberlain up, I realize some people are against the school for various reasons. I have a bachelor degree already and am against going to STLCC (I have not had the best experience there). I have looked Chamberlain up and feel it is an OK option for my personal needs, but does it transfer to any other schools or would I have to continue with Chamberlain? I would like to keep going with my education after earning my BSN and don't want to attend Chamberlain if the degree will not be accepted anywhere else in the US. If it will not transfer, do you know of any other options similar to Chamberlain (that will transfer)? I like the idea of no waiting list and direct entry into a program. I am in the STL area, but will consider elsewhere in Missouri for the right program. Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone has ever worked for Advantage Nursing Services in the STL area? I’m a new grad with about 6 months of hospital experience and I just don’t think it’s for me. I think I would like home health/ private duty a lot better! Please let me know.

I am wanting to go to Cox next fall for a BSN to get my RN. I have no nurse type degree and i Know most schools want you to have LPN first and by what i was reading you dont have too. does anyone know the tuition? I live in Branson. Also i heard that i would have to go through Drury to get a Associates of Science in General Studies to get into a BSN. If thats the case would the Associates of Science in General Studies take 2 years then the BSN 4? and if i did classes during the summer that would lower it right?Has anyone did Drury also for this if you had to for Cox and if i did it online would have to go to the college to take tests? I think id have more fun and learn better go to the college though for the Associates of Science in General Studies if it is needed from Drury for Cox. I am doing my HS right now online and hoping i can finish by spring to enroll for fall. It is heard and when i dont get something i have to look up it or ask in student forums. Any info though would be so helpful.

Hello! I was recently accepted to Saint Luke's College of Health Sciences in Kansas City and will be finding out my admission status at KUMC in just a couple weeks. I have visited both schools and think both are wonderful programs, but I would like to hear about the experiences of other students. Any information you could provide me with regarding general experiences, clinical sites, environment, schedule, quality of preparation/how prepared you feel, professors, class size, amount of online material, etcetera. I know this is all going to be on opinion but, what is the best adult ICU to work at in the Kansas City area? I have just applied to CRNA school and was turned down, I don't know the reason why but I'm going to guess that it is an experience issue since my ICU experience is NICU (newborn ICU). I knew it would be iffy at best trying to get in with that experience. Now that I've been through the application and interview process once, I'm much wiser. What I am looking to do is move to the Kansas City area, gain adult ICU experience and apply to KU, Truman, and Missouri State CRNA programs within the next year and a half or so. I'm looking at three hospitals in the area. KU Med, Truman, and North Kansas City Hospital. I currently work in a University level I trauma center/teaching hospital and want to stay in that same environment if possible. Thank you.

Hi everyone: I am looking for some advice for finding a job in the Saint Louis area with probation on my license. I got a DWI in nursing school and it was not my first offense. I have addressed my problems and not drank since the incident. I relentlessly pursued the Board to let me test and passed my NCLEX on my first attempt. I take random urine tests for alcohol and have started my job search now that my probation is in place. I recently got an offer from Mercy only to have it taken back from Human Resources an hour after the offer. I was forthcoming on the application process, interview with hiring manager on the floor, interview with two charge nurses and the human resource intertiewer from which the job was offered about the probation linked to my license. She called me back and said that the legal department informed her that Mercy does not accept any new applicants that are on probation. I feel it was handled fairly unprofessionally, but at the end of the day, I take responsibility for my actions. From reading many others posts with people in similar situations, I understand I might not get hired on at a major hospital. I was just wondering if anyone in Missouri with probation on their license has gotten hired on at SSM, BJC, or Saint Lukes. I am ok with starting at a SNF or dialysis center (apparently they hire with probation but think you need to have special training), but did not want to exhaust my search at hospitals just yet. I am finishing up my ADN program and should (hopefully) graduate in May. I'm really interested in working for a HCA facility, specifically Research or Lee Summit Medical because I had a positive impression of them from my clinicals. I'm having a couple issues, though. 1. I have not seen anything positive on here about HCA in general or Research in particular. However, all the negative stuff about Research was from before the nurses union was voted in. Is it still bad? The people I've spoken with at the hospital seem to like their job, but who is going to tell a student that the hospital sucks? 2. I've been applying for PCT jobs with HCA, but usually most say "not under consideration." I just had 2 interviews (1 with the supervisor and 1 peer interview) for a PCT on the PCU unit and I'm really hoping I get the job because the people I met seemed really diverse and interesting and the unit itself seems like it would have a lot of opportunities for learning. However, my application just says "completed." I'd really like to work at Research and would like to hear your stories and opinions of it.

Hello! I just graduated my California ADN program in December, and will be moving to Missouri around February 1st, 2017. My school has notified our class that we will not be able to schedule our NCLEX until mid-February. How do I go about testing in Missouri 1) if I want to get my CA license or 2) if I decide to just get my MO license. I'm sure this question has been asked and answered hundreds of times on these boards, and I will keep looking here and on the Missouri BRN website, but I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I have an active license in MN and currently residing in MO. I finished my nursing degree in the Philippines. I also started my endorsement to Missouri by requesting CES in CGFNS. My question is if I have to take the IELTS exam or can this be waived since during my nursing school, our medium of instruction was in English. I would appreciate the feedback from anyone. Thank you.

With the economy and time that the country has gone through and where I have heard some say there is a nursing shortage and then there are those who say the field is getting saturated. Let me clarify before I am judged negatively, I love nursing and its aspects but getting a reasonable wage of living is also a priority as it is the reason why we go to school and it is the main focus of what I am asking. A couple of friends of mine say they do not get paid well for their work as a nurse! I was wondering how much pay rates are now for new graduates or current workers of hospitals such as BJC, SSM, Mercy, etc?
