Question about resignation

So this is my first year being a school nurse and I love it. But I have a toddler that is constantly sick (I am guessing from daycare). There are just 3 weeks of school left and now my child is sick again and will be out of daycare for at least a week. My husband and I are thinking it might be better if I just stay home, at least then we wont have to worry about daycare costs AND backup sitter costs, plus *maybe* our child won't be sick as often. So my question is...is 2 weeks notice adequate for a school nursing position? If not, should I offer to come back for an additional 2 weeks in the next school year, making it a 4 week notice? Its just kind of bad timing and I am looking for advice...

    If at all possible, I would give them notice then finish out the year, it will probably really leave your school in a bind if you leave now. You do not want to burn bridges if you don't absolutely have to. I hope your child gets better soon :)

    I also think you should just finish out the school year. Legally you may only need to give 2 weeks but with only 3 weeks left, I think they would be very unhappy with you leaving them without coverage the last week. That gives them the summer to hire a nurse for the next school year. Good luck!

    I wouldn't offer to come back for two weeks in the fall as they will have all summer to find a replacement so that's not going to help them at all. If you're able to give two weeks notice now then you are able to go ahead and make it three weeks since your baby will be better in a few days anyway. I know you are anxious but I strongly encourage you to finish out the year. The last week will be pretty easy anyway. That way you will leave on good terms.

    If you really love the job see if there is any way to stay. Maybe hire someone to take care of your child at home? I just mean that school nurse jobs are hard to come by and i would hate for you to throw it away. Once your child gets into school it is a great job to have. Just food for thought.

    I would not resign at this point in the school year. Give them notice that you won't be back next year, but finish the year.

    another bite of food for thought is that, yes, kids do get sick from daycare all the time at first, them their immunity builds and they seem to not get sick so much.

    But if you are set on resigning, yes, just give then the notice to finish out the school year - it probably won't be necessary for you to start in the autumn, though it is nice of you to offer to them, as it is late and some people getting out of contracts may miss their cot off depending on how they are written.

    I'd finish off the rest of the year (3 weeks) and rejoice that I could stay home with my kiddo.

    They grow up fast. The price of day care pretty much cancels out any real profit from working (count the cost of working as well like gas, meals, etc.).
