No. Comparison is the thief of joy. You are only 22. Its the oldest you have ever been, but it is young in the grand scheme of things.

I'm in my early 30s and applying to nursing schools. I'm single with no kids. I assure you I am not a loser nor am I worried about what my peers are doing.

I am 24, graduated nursing school in may and I just landed my first job RN today. You know what? Life does happen and things don't need always go according to plan like it didn't for me! Everyone is different and I am finding that a lot of people don't graduate college in 4 years and that's okay. As long as you are doing what you want and what you love, than who cares how long it takes you, as long as you reach your goals. The last thing you should be worrying about is being single. Take this time to focus on you and your career and it will be well worth it! :) like the other poster said, you might find that your one of the younger people in your class!

One of my classmates was 56 when she graduated but nursing was her dream. I graduated in my late 20s. I honestly could not have done nursing when I first graduated high school. I found my life experiences made me a safer nurse and a better critical thinker.

A loser for graduating with a professional degree?

Pffffffft - I won't graduate until I'm close to 50, and I consider myself the opposite of a loser for deciding to go back to school.....

Marriage can be great, but why rush into a life commitment just because your friends are?

Off topic....but.....I've seen your posts over the months, but mainly about studying for class......didn't know you got accepted...that's awesome! When do you start???? I just got in and started a few weeks ago!

Thanks!! I start in January - just found out on Friday that I was accepted to my first choice. It still hasn't sunk in yet. Is it awesome to finally be going to classes and stuff?

Brilliant news - congrats! Yes, I'm only a few weeks in so we're doing the mandatory degree classes, not specific to nursing. However - they start in a few weeks - can't wait! It's excellent!

I feel you, I'm also 22 as of this August and until just recently I decided what I want to study but I am so behind. Due to personal reasons I couldn't finish highschool and I just recently received my GED. I'm scared to even start classes just to even be considered for nursing school. I feel like I won't even get in. But here's to hoping I guess. I'm sure you'll do great though, good luck

Sounds like you have a bad case of FOMO. Try not to focus on how great everyone's lives appear to be on the surface (everyone always posts about how great things are going on Facebook and Instagram) and focus on how you're improving yourself and your life by completing this degree. I'm one of several older students in my class (30 y/o) -- "alternative" students are becoming more prevalent in undergrad programs, and being "alternative" doesn't make us losers. We just took a little more time getting to the finish line, that's all. Good luck, and keep going!
