  1. Did you start the program? If so where are you currently in terms of classes? Have you found a preceptor?
  2. I cannot understand why you are so bitter. Did one of these providers come in and overtake your job and overachieve past your abilities? it is not the school these providers attend, but their past experience and individual abilities . I will not entertain further a crazy ? person. End of discussion!
  3. All I can say is ridiculous! To think that an actual school or university makes the provider is absurd! I certainly hope that who ever thinks this and displays this view, along with the continued debate and adversity towards others on this post , is not an actual provider in healthcare . all I can say is crazy ?

  5. Well I'm a nurse practitioner that has 3 years of experience, and 15 in various areas of RN experience. My pay is 51.33 an hour. As a UPS regular driver at 4 years will make 51.00 an hour with new wage and gets overtime for more than 40 hours a week. They work very hard and deserve this pay - Nurse Practitioner s why don't we request more per hour?!
  6. That sounds like a good orientation. When I asked how long the orientation would be for the offered position, they said I could shadow a night , and then take my own patients. Even though I would like to get into the hospital setting again, this time as an NP, this made me very nervous. I had to pass:(
  7. Agreed , I have done the comp and pensions, that is pretty much self explanatory. Family practice was a jump right in as well, a little more broad but definitely achievable ,depending on the clients and number the facility is trying to push through in a day. I had a job offer and am really tempted to try a Hospitalist position. The only hesitancy is it is nights 7p-7a, , 7 on 7 off.I would be the only one o with a oncall physician to ask questions too.
  8. Are you truly working under a physician? If so, how? They are truly making the Nurse Practitioner position salary to the point where even though we have the knowledge. (And such broad knowledge as a FNP). We certainly can Practice the part, but the pay stinks to the point, that we may as well let the physician take the lead ? I swear the new position that I just took , the heads have no clue what a nurse practitioner is. This even though I am the only provider on site. There is a medical director that I can email or call for questions, but that is if I can get ahold of her and get an answer. the nurse managers with less degree and experience make more money than me and other nurse practitioners. In fact I'm not paid overtime if I work over 40, the floor nurses do plus earn about what I do , then work overtime bringing in more $ than me. in my opinion the nurse practitioner just does the work of the Dr and gets paid as a Nurse. No voice for the NP as we get exploited. My opinion to nurses , don't go to school to be a NP, unless you like to work underpaid and just like working as a Dr for nurse pay and a lesser title. I think we need to change the title to get more notice. Just my rant and opinion .....

  10. I would like to discuss how often Nurse Practitioners new to a position are getting any type of orientation. If so , please discuss the length of the orientation and what type of agenda is included. Also, is there any other providers at the facility. If so please describe if there is support, mentor, any physician oversight.
  11. I was so happy to graduate as a NP, almost 3 years ago. First job I was given keys to an office , boxes to unpack . I set u my computer, printer, exam table .I was named administrator and provider and started seeing patients. I thought it was crazy, but I learned to love being on my own and seeing veterans. No prescribing, learned a lot. Unfortunately it was a contract and ended in a year . I scrambled to be without work and not go back into travel nursing. I paired up with a holistic practitioner, whom owned a building. I was to have my own family practice. What it ended up being, she had no "practitioner degree", no medical education or nursing. I was triaged her sick patients that needed medical care. Others she didn't want having antibiotics or medications. I ended up contacting DEA because there was a script I did not write on a patient the clinic , I actually saw. When I got it off my license and had it investigated, the holistic practitioner said grab your things, thus us working out. So there went another year. I was actively looking daily and out of work 4 months before 3 positions came available. A Hospitalist position, my goal job. This was 2 hours from home and would require 7 on 7 off . I would have to rent in a town that is not so well of a reputation. The other choice was a family practice way under paid., an hour from home. The third choice, which I took is 35 minutes from home, a correctional , prison setting. The hourly wage is still not live able , I thought well if overtime I could make it up. They capped me , as an exempt employee and I'm salary , even though hourly. Nurses and assistant and health services managers make more than me. I am the only provider at the facility. Everything comes through me. Prior to me there was a Dr and a NP that both retired at the facility. There is a Dr fir me to call if I have questions at a different facility. I am beginning to think the NP is way undervalued, in fact I'm not sure the uppers even know what a NP is- are they thinking we are LPNs in the pay scale or just. Mother RN....maybe I'm just a sh!@ magnet.
  12. I also went from traveling nursing to family nurse practitioner. I had 15 years RN experience, prior to becoming an NP. I've been an NP now almost 3 years, most the RNs I work with make almost what I do . A new nurse manager with a BSN coming in from being a previous staff nurse , is getting paid $5 more an hour than me. The pay scale for Nurse Practitioners is a joke, way behind times. The Drs where I work have the same exact responsibilities as I do as an NP. The difference is a pay scale that allows them triple what us NPs are making. I contemplated going back into travel nursing, but with all these CEUs and certifications to keep up with, as well as going back into floor nursing , takes me backwards. I was offered a different position with more pay, but it was salary , 12 .5 hr shifts , 7 days on 7 off . Had to be on a committee without more pay on days off. No PTO and I would have had to rent a place while working as it was 3 hours away. Definitely not the compensation I would have expected.
  13. NP programs should be put on hold. There should be guidelines in place for at least 10 years RN experience to enter a program. There are way too many Nurse practitioners, ( including all the variety of certifications). There are little to no jobs, and many are exploiting NPs for their DEA license for these remote telehealth positions. New NPs should be warned that schools are looking for money. It's an over saturated environment to say the least.
  14. I say definitely take the position if you are offered. Great pay and satisfying work!
