congratulations!! What was the process for getting released early? Was it something your case manager offered, or did you bring it up to them?

I usually waste when I pull from the pyxis but here's one reason some nurses may not (and this story is not the first time or pt this has happened with): Pt was getting 0.5mg Dilaudid, which was 0.25mL. I would draw it up in the med room so I could waste right away, then take the syringe to the pt's room and administer it. 2 days into taking care of this pt, she said, "you know, I never feel it/get good pain control when you administer it, but when my night nurses do, its incredibly strong and helpful." I went over that I dilute it in NS, maybe I was pushing it slower, etc but then I told her i'd bring the unopened vial in next time and measure the dose in front of her. I did, and the pt said the same thing about not feeling it, etc even though we both saw that the correct dose was being given. The pt was having a legitimate lot of pain, so I think the night shift nurses were giving her a "nurse's dose", possibly up to the full 2mg. This is wrong on so many levels (call the doc so the pt can have consistent pain control since 0.5 isn't working!), so now i'm more inclined to bring the unopened vials to the pt's room and draw it up in front of them.

I think you could get away with taking the oxy because you're taking it prn for the reason it was prescribed and it is not expired. I think you're outta luck with the Ativan if it's expired.

I never could stay up all night if I wasn't working so the day before my night shift I go to bed around midnight and get up at 5a, then I go to bed around noon and get up for my shift at 5p...so it's like 2 5 hour naps and it actually works really well for me!

Education seems to be what usually saves me but I know you've already tried that. Even if I know they can't have anything more, I still usually page the dr and ask. That way, they think I'm doing something and seem appreciative even if I tell them the dr said no and sometimes the dr will come up with something that I hadn't even thought of. Now granted we have a pa there until 5am so it isn't like I'm waking anyone up but still worth a shot if your hospital is set up like that!

I would bet the other hospital has "expectations" as well. No one wants to pay to train a new grad for them to leave soon after. My hospital didn't make new grads sign a contract but they still expect you to stick around for a few years.

I think you still start as an RN I and move into RN II after 1.5-2 yrs

Absolutely depends on where you go. A lot of my coworkers got jobs bar tending weddings and other events. It depends on your schedule as well. Bars may be more flexible (and some are only open thurs-sat nights).

No, it will already be half full from the previous bag. Unless the previous bag ran dry, in which case you'd have to reprime because there would probably be air in the line.

That is a terrible idea on so many levels.

I did the Saunders book and the nclex rn mastery app and I don't think either helped much. I wish I had done a ton more priority questions and select all that apply. Some of my friends recommended books that were specifically about select all that apply and I wish I would've looked at those. I did pass in 75 questions, but I attribute that to going to a great nursing school and paying attention, not anything I did once I graduated.

I brought my passport which doesn't have an address so you should be fine

I loved my CNA class. It was from 5-9p two days a week and we'd have potluck dinners or order pizza almost every class. There were 8 of us. We all came from a wide variety of backgrounds, but we all got along really well.

Do you know if GNs get shift diff?

I would probably ask that specific hospital.

I would take "on call rotation" to mean that you're on call, on a rotation.

I think it's more to see if you read things carefully. Who would hide a speeding ticket??
