It's hard to believe it's going on 30 years that I've been an RN! I started my career in the Army Nurse Corps and trained for my specialty in Psych-Mental Health. I've had my ANCC Certification since 1995. When I retired from the Army, I transitioned to the VA, and worked in Psych inpatient and outpatient and staff education on my units. I eventually added to my skill set the wonderful experience of working in long term care as a Dementia Care Coordinator with older adults and those living with dementia. In 2019 I retired from the VA and full time work, and now take care of my mom. I still have my licenses (I went through way too much to get them!) and now I do Tele-mental health as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. My background in psych nursing, and just nursing in general, led me to this wonderful new niche where I get to be like a "one-stop-shop" for patients who need extra support with education about meds, illnesses, and general med-surg stuff. One of my passions is teaching healthcare workers about resilience in their work, and developed a training based on years of experience and research.
I was raised in Hawai'I (Air Force brat) by my Irish dad and Japanese mom. I still have brothers and their families there so we can visit regularly. My sister is in Alaska, which is also a great place to visit. It was a great place to grow up- open hearts, open minds, island spirit. Oh yeah, and the beaches are great! I live in NM now enjoying the quiet and beauty and NO BUILDINGS blocking my view! I have a cool service dog named Shadow, and all you animals peeps already know, my son. My newest loves are crafts and photography. I make a mean crocheted scarf! I'm in the choir at my Catholic Parish, and have gotten to love singing in public over the years. I hope to meet some more New Mexicans here.
