  1. Resident Passing thoughts

I work at 2 facilities as a CNA. I am also nursing student in my final semester. One of the facilities I work at embraces resident passing. They have a quilt made by the residents for that purpose. Residents are not shuttered in rooms when the passed...
  2. Senior year..Eating Disorder RN jobs

I work on an EDU and do NOT recommend it for new grads. Get med surg experience! You will be doing IVs, NGs, watching labs like a hawk etc on top of behaviors. Not for the faint of heart. And it is not all anorexia/bulemia anymore. There is ARFID, o...
  3. I work in LTC. I have had 2 codes recently. Neither should have been a full code. I've also seen patients that were compressions only. To me a full code in an LTC (barring the patient being adamant about living) is a failure of nursing. We need to te...
  4. Is this reasonable or just over the top?

This is where I'll take my 25 in long term care any day. No bedside reporting because by 3pm almost no one is in their rooms. As a patient, I would smack any person who woke me up at 6-7am for report. Or less than 12 hours post op for that matter. An...
  5. All the time. I work in LTC. Our machines, at least as I have seen, are poorly calibrated. We have be up to 30 points off on a SBP. For meds, all are done manually. And I'm only one year out of nursing school, but was a CNA for ages.
  6. Call the family???

I work in LTC. I am also a 6 months in new nurse. We have many residents that are self-responsible (perhaps some need that reassessed, but they still are their own person). My question is that if someone is self responsible and obtains a bruise/skin...
  7. Call the family???

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. I had been ill-informed and there was not clear policy regarding this in the facility.
  8. I took NCLEX on 7/6, found out I passed via quick results on 7/8-how long until it's posted on Ct Elicense? I need it for school and work.
  9. 2016-How long to have license posted?

I'm still waiting. There is ONE guy working in that office now. For the entire state. ONE! He said 3 weeks.
  10. Best littmann stethoscope model for Nursing School?

I never got a littman. I have an MDF MD one model and it's great. The only Thing that drives me nuts is the ear pieces wear out-but they are very easy to replace. I do look at Littmans, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about my 'scope growing legs....
  11. When our older nurses die :(

My grandmother was one of those nurses. She retired in her 70's and I'm sure could run laps around the young ones. I got to spend time with her before she passed and she let me know all about what she had seen. Now I start my career.
  12. The ONE thing that will make your nursing life easier

im sorry this has been your experience, but as an aide of 13 years I have worked with dozens of awesome aides. I can say the same about some nurses I've worked with. You get what you expect. Raise your expectations.
  13. The ONE thing that will make your nursing life easier

Sorry, I can not agree with this at all. I've been an aide for 13 years and have worked with dozens of truly awesome cnas. I wish we were respected more (we are not that far off from what COTAs do). Im sorry this is your experience, but if this is h...
  14. When I applied it was a different director with her own admission method. I entered with my BS in A health care area general sciences done and currently in AP1 and micro when applying. My Teas was a 77 I think. I had not taken any classes at STCC. T...
  15. Clinical starts about 3 weeks into first semester. One day a week for most, a few groups were 2 half days. Lecture is 2 days a week, in the morning. Lab is once a week. Let me know if you have more questions!
  16. Manual vs electric lifts

I am one of the biggest holdouts of manual lifts. I like that we don't have to charge them and I find they don't break as much. However in terms of patient safety and comfort, electric lifts win. I feel that every facility should have one manual lift...
  17. New LPN, going on four months at LTC facility. HELP!!

You can tell pg aide that this one did her job and more through 2 pregnancies. Lifts and all. If she is not put on LD by her MD she should be doing her job. I recommend that you get a copy of the CNA job requirements from your DON. Discuss how the f...
  18. New LPN, going on four months at LTC facility. HELP!!

I didn't read through every reply.. As a CNA-you don't have a nurse problem, you have a CNA problem. CNA are primary responders to call lights. They should be feeding residents. Breaks should be scheduled so that no one is on break at care times (gen...
  19. I am a NURSE

Thank you for this. I graduate in May and honestly, I don't want a hospital job. I have been a CNA for 12 years in LTC, rehab and Geri-psych. At least starting off I don't want to be anywhere else.
  20. Having a family member as a patient

This is extremely unethical. It is creating a hostile work environment for the nurse. It is compromising care of other patients. He is compromising her integrity. It also can be seen as a HIPAA violation as she is most likely not the person of contac...
  21. Long-Term Care Nursing: A Specialty In Its Own Right

Thank you for posting this. I am in my 3rd semester of an Rn program and graduate In May. This semester I am on a med-surg floor and HATE it! I have been a CNA for 12 years including working AL, Geri-psych, rehab, home care and LTC. I can't wait to p...
  22. I currently am in my second year of this program. I love it. It is a lot of work but if it wasn't it wouldn't really be helping you. The professors are very supportive. Plan on 16 hours a week at STCC and at least double that amount studying/doing p...
  23. Typical Day For A Home Health Nurse | Life of a Nurse

I just started reading this thread and I have to say thank you! I have been a CNA for ages, am currently in school for my RN. For 2 years I did non medical home care scheduling/intake/actual care. As I get closer to finishing school I get more of a f...
  24. CT LPN schools

I hemmed and hawed about the same thing. Entering with a bachelors etc. I applied to several rn programs and I am so glad I did! Lpn jobs are so limited and very competitive. Im not sure where you live in ct but look with an open mind. I go to schoo...
  25. New Grad and AORN Periop 101

I am currently an RN student and am really looking at OR as my specialty. I want to be as prepared as I can be going into the work environment and was wondering if Periop 101 is worth doing as a new grad (and if it is possible to complete it prior to...
