How can an rn with no nursing experience be a supervisor
Okay stop attacking the RN supervisor. If you want to help train her, because the bottom line is education is key that is why I am a RN that is BSN train, howeve I am have now returned to school to pursue my MSN as family nurse pracitioner. I know it will be some years before I complete but I will be educated further. I further my education so I can have those opportunities, rather than take the easy way out.

Can RNs really make this much?
I disagree. You should earn based on your skills, and qualifications and responsibility level along with other issues being looked at as well. I wont work for pennies on the dollar and believe with education, earnings should continue to grow. Please! why go to school to be a nurse. Just volunteer your time and leave others alone.

Can RNs really make this much?
Not to be brash, however if you have been a nurse for that many years and with your educational background, the question is why are you only making 32 hr? I would try management jobs because I am a true believer that nurses should be getting their due pay. We put up with so much. I have only been a RN for 5 years and now work as a Nurse manager in substance abuse. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, BUT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY BE MAKING MORE.

Highest paid nursing field?
Hello I dont want to be gross or disturbing, but let me say. Money matters, if I was not getting paid the amt that I am for all that we have to take, I would not be bothered. I chose the field for other reasons, however Money is my primary concern, because in the end I have to live and take care of my family, So for those of you that money does not matter great!!! but I am a very professional nurse and time is money. Sorry, I think we need more males in the field who look at the bottom line. Nursing is a business and we need to learn how to market ourselves. As a Consultant, I make 50.00 and up an hour, however this is not full time. My full time, I make over 70,000 yr with great benefits, could be better, I am an associate degree prepared RN who is returning to school to become a nurse practioner soon. Nurses stop selling yourselves short. If facilities dont want to pay leave when you get the chance for higher salary. This is your mind body and nursing is stressful. After saying all that I would like to say I am a very caring person, but if we dont start demanding better working conditions and salary, the doctors will continue to gain and us nurses well we get whats left.

A Sister Never Forgets
Thank you for sharing, your story brought an enlightenment to me, although very sad, and I know the person will reap what he has sown, for the universe has a way of repaying us. God bless you and your family. I was touched by the memories your little brother left you. He would want you to live a very very happy life. Have a wonderful life.

What kind of error puts a license at risk?
I just made a drug error. I was following non-license personnel, and the mar was written somewhat confusing. Librium was being titrated down. I gave 2 instead of 1 I am becoming concerned because following non -license personnel is not good and there is only so much you can do to ensure safety.

Both my patients died the other night...my first ones
I think that nursing is a calling. I believe that it is a privledge to care for the sick. I believe some how this makes us closer to jesus, that he finds this good in his eyes. I think you are suppose to feel or otherwise you would not be human. Those patients were lucky to have someone such as yourself to care for them. DONT WORRY you will become stronger. God does not give us more than we can bear. God bless you. I hope that when It is my time to go that I will have a caring nurse such as yourself

Am I a loser? I couldn't keep up....
I totally agree. Now you know what shifts you prefer

My Sweet Little Angel Patient Passed Away Today
You sound like a angel yourself. I am not telling you what to do, but I believe you are in this profession for a reason. You sound like you are the angel to those kids. God bless you and the kids you have touched. dont leave nursing permanetly, god knows we need more like you.

Pt refused to leave!
I agree. I feel that the comment made was very judgemental; At least the mother was supportive and concerned. I would not have taken the mothers statement personally, she does not know your job. She just wanted a physician to assess her daughter.
-
Pt refused to leave!
That is a not so nice comment about the mother. The fact that her daughter got pregnant has nothing to do with her concerns. I feel that the mother had her rights to be concerned. The nurse did her duty by informing the doctor of those concerns. Why the anger?

Insulin
To err is human that is the point of having another nurse verify your work. If you have 6 or 8 pts. It is good to have someone else verify. I Do not feel that my license says that I can make a stupid mistake with someone elses life just because I am a RN.

Please Help Me!! 50 pts med pass [New grad]
Hello, I have a question. I work in a non medical detox. Had patient come in with about 20 drugs he was on. I sat down with the patient and went over the drugs, made up the mar and gave pts his drugs. I return the next day to the shift to find out the nurse that came on after me had documented that I had given pravacol and zocor together and the patient was only suppose to have one of those meds. She called the supervisor at 6am to let her know this. I would like everyone opinion please. I took the responsiblity because I administered the drug. according to the nurse the consumer told her he was holding on to the medications to the zocor to finish because he did not want to throw away because of financial reasons. Consumer never mention to me. I feel it was my responsibility to know. What does anyone else think. I feel so bad, because the other nurse found it and I did not.

NP w/no desire for RN?
I will not refute your argument of why the ADN was created because I was not around when it happened such as yourself; and although I have heard that information before, I can not and will not debate that point without some research. Though, that is certaintly not the way it is now. those listings above are exactly what makes a RN an RN in todays society. I am sorry that you are still holding on to old ideas which are very outdated.
-
NP w/no desire for RN?
I disagree, your statement does not whole water. A RN IS A RN, they take the same exam. I will not discuss the history, but a RN is not a tech, there are those who would like to make it so a 2 year program would produce techs. I state again there are those RN's who have more clinical time in the associates program who can run rings around bachelor prepared nurses. Trust me I know. As Far as the exam being a non-issue. That exam is what states whether or not you can wear the RN behind your name legally. I hate to be the one to let you, it makes no difference unless you are going into some sort of area that requires a bachelor and even then a associate degree nurse can get a bachelor in a years time which is only 3 compared to 4 years. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but a Associates prepared RN is just as legal as a Bachelor RN to practice nursing. sorry
-
NP w/no desire for RN?
First, there is no way that they are going to relegate a RN with an ADN TO A tech status.Your Professor is mis- informed if she told you that, Probably just to make those who have a BSN feel better about themselves. A RN is a RN. Most programs that are 2 year programs, just happen to require more clinical time. I am not against a BSN, I have a BSN. What I am against is this information they give nurses who pursue BSN. When I started nursing, the ADN nurses could run rings around me because they had more clinical time.

NP w/no desire for RN?
Well, I disagree about all those years experience. Yes; of course it can help you; if you dont get set in your ways, which I feel lots of years in an area will do. I think it erodes some of the benefits of having some experience. I think depending on the person, 1 to 2 years is quite enough of RN experience or even less. I think that going to school gives you fresh ideas and new ways of thinking. The technology and medical field is growing and changing so fast we can barely keep up, New minds are always welcome.
