  1. Doesn't Lehman College have a nursing program? I don't know if it is a BSN, though.
  2. Odd. I was told $22 for RN1 new grad. Edit: @mangodream: I was told there is no salary difference between ADN and BSN i.e. no education differential. Housing for rent within walking distance is available. Just look for a place in the village of Cooperstown.
  3. The only affordable inn I stayed at is closed for the winter. It was a nice place although it was just outside of Cooperstown. Cooperstown Motel is also affordable but has horrible reviews on TripAdvisor. It is walking distance to the hospital, I believe. Other places I have looked at cost upwards of $85+ per night. However, the places did look nice and clean. You can check out: The Inn at Cooperstown Main Street B and B The White House Cooperstown B and B If you think it might be an option for you, you can check out motels in Oneonta. The Hampton Inn at Oneonta was nice, clean and quiet as well. I think a night's stay was around $80 - $85. I believe public bus runs during weekdays and is not too expensive.
  4. Hi, nyRN1989. The phone interview came first. I prepared going by the questions that others have already listed on the Bassett threads. I thought that it went okay. I gave them 2-3 weeks before following up personally after the phone interview. I was not offered a position after the phone interview nor was I offered a second in-person interview after it. However, I did eventually get the second interviews for two floors, which went well. I will be starting my position in January. Good luck!
  5. Is this fellowship a paid position? Do they require you to work for x number of years in return for the training? Where can I find more information about it? The North Shore LIJ Nursing Fellowship webpage is not all that informative.
  6. Wow. You sound just like me, both strengths and weaknesses. Update: I actually got offered a job from that interview. LOL. Maybe my honesty wasn't such a huge mistake after all.
  7. Thank you for your advice.
  8. Before nursing school about 5+ years ago, I worked for a year and a half at a doctor's office, and before that, I worked as a student tutor (almost 10 years or more ago). For personal reasons, I chose not to keep in contact with my most recent former supervisor. Unfortunately, it seems as if this was the wrong decision as I am applying online to various positions as a new nurse. Those darn applications ask whether they can contact my former place of employment, and if not, why not? Does it look bad if I say no because it has been too long? My former supervisor does not seem to recall me when I tried to contact him, and the doctor's office I worked in has undergone huge changes so I am not sure whether saying yes, you can contact them is a good idea. Also, how long do most companies hold on to former employee records? Would HR bother trying to contact a place of employment that was from almost a decade ago?
  9. Wish I had read this advice before my own interview. I was honest but I failed to follow up with what I'd done to help overcome the weakness. I've been wondering if that was why I never got a reply to my follow up e-mail....
  10. Thanks for the link. I also have an interest in working in South Korea in the future, and was wondering about exactly what you posted. Now I know where to look after I get some experience under my belt. :)
  11. I cannot seem to find the phlebotomy courses to register for at The Red Cross. Are they not offering it anymore?
  12. Thank you.
  13. Could a former co-worker also act as a professional reference? Reason I ask is because my last supervisor was from a position five years ago. I am having a difficult time reaching him on a consistent basis, and my last message from him was, "Who are you again?"
  14. I'm going through this right now with one of my two references. It is annoying.
  15. Thank you! I did a search because I was wondering about this specifically.
  16. Thanks, Rasha and nursekoli! My interview is coming up and I'm so nervous!
  17. - Question was answered in another thread. Thanks!
  18. Hi Rasha and whoever else interviewed with medical and surgical, what were your interviews like? What was the unit like? What do you think they were looking for in a new grad? What kind of questions were you asked? Did you do a peer interview? Was there a difference in the type of questions that the nurse manager or director asked to what the peers asked? What do you think worked for you? If you could either post or PM me (have not enough posts to qualify for PM myself), I would greatly appreciate it.
  19. Ditto. Now I just need to get over my own anxiety even after reading about your experience.
  20. "When I told her I would be moving to Rochester, she wanted to know when (which was awkward, since my answer was basically, "when you hire me...")" That's frustrating because I, for one, would be willing to relocate - if I got hired - so I applied to out-of-state facilities and upstate NY (live downstate). I did have a phone interview at a facility 3.5 hrs away but I think that was partly because I made the effort to job shadow over there for 2 days and meet with HR as well which I mentioned in the cover letter.
  21. Thank you very much!
  22. I am wondering, how detailed is this process? Will the hiring managers or the company they hire verify every smallest detail? The reason I am asking is because I have had a previous non-clinical position in a physician's office over 5 years ago (am a new GN now), and I don't remember what my ending salary was so on the on-line applications, I guesstimate but to be honest, I have no idea how close I am or not. Unfortunately, there isn't room for me to be "estimate" in the ending salary box either, and now I'm worried that this will completely disqualify me (or worse?) as a candidate.
  23. Hello to those to applied to this program, to whom did you direct the cover letter? @HelenRN88, did you hear back from them within the 2-week period?
