  1. You're doing it the smart way! That's exactly what I'm going to do is take all my Science prerequisites one at a time so I can focus on just that one class and do good in it. It will take me a lot longer which makes me anxious since I'm already old, but I want to get the best GPA possible.
  2. I really need to figure out a good system also as I have 6 kids ages 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 18 and yes the older ones are just as noisy sometimes, but the two youngest are CRAZY! (boys) lol I am trying to get into the LVN program and worry about being able to study and do all of my homework efficiently.
  3. Khanacademy.org is Amazing! I was trying to learn the blood flow through the heart etc. and the videos helped me so much. You should check it out if you haven't already. Maybe they will have something that can help you get the information to stick and make it easier to remember without over studying. Good luck! :)
  4. Hello, I am not in the RN program yet but I am currently taking my prereqs to get in at Fresno City. I'm just curious, did you have to wait a long time in the lottery to get in? What was the TEAS test like?
  5. I'm doing the exact same thing the books are so expensive! I rent them off Amazon and they don't have my Math book so I don't know what I'm going to do since it's $100. I'm gonna check out Abe books too.
  6. Same thing happened to me. I just passed the State Competency exam on Sunday, and they called me yesterday for an interview. I'm so nervous and don't do very good in interviews. I get so nervous that I can't talk right and don't know what to say to certain questions lol. Good luck let us know how it goes. :)
  7. Congratulations!!! Your story is very inspiring and encouraging!! I'm just curious for when I take the NCLEX, what happens if the third attempt is failed?
  8. CaliLVN-RN Do you live in Fresno by any chance? I know an LVN named Barbara. Just curious.
  9. Hey I read that you work in Psychiatric Nursing as a CNA. Where do you work at? I really want to work in that field, I love it! Are they hiring?
  10. Yes it is a long process. Hope you get it! :)
  11. Oh wow yeah I still have to take Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Math, and Medical Terminology, take the CNET, and go to the orientation before I can apply. I still have a long ways to go. I am shooting for the March 2016 program. I'm not gonna rush it. So if they call you, then you know you're accepted, or how do they inform you that you got in after your interview?
  12. I would like to follow this post as I am an older student also. I am barely starting on my prerequisites and I'm 36 years old. I have a really hard time focusing but I don't think that's due to my age it's just me. I also have 6 kids to worry about. I am so nervous and anxious to see if I can do this.
  13. I'm actually trying to get into the Fresno Adult LVN program too. I think you just take the CNET and go to the LVN orientation and put in your application and they email you or call you to come in for an interview then they send you a letter of acceptance.
  14. Me too I took a long time to finally go after my dreams after having kids and I also kept chickening out of Nursing school as I thought I wasn't smart enough (still do sometimes). I am 36 years old and barely going to start working on my prerequisites and Associate's classes. I hope to get into the March 2016 LVN program and graduate before I'm 40. IF I get accepted the first attempt I will graduate at 38 y/o (my age has always discouraged me). I am taking this route to see if I can actually survive Nursing school. I have 6 kids so I'm a tiny bit skeptical, but I have a very supportive husband so I think I will make it. I just have to stay positive and remember I am doing this for my kids' future to be able to better support them, and myself of course. We CAN do this!
  15. I'm very nervous about going to Nursing school (LVN) as I have 6 kids ages 6,7,11,12,13, and 18. Also, I am already 36 years old. I hope to work part time as a CNA while going to school too. I graduate from my CNA class on December 11th and take my State test on December 14th. I'm soo nervous!! I was given the Pharm Phlash flashcard set for Pharmacology has anyone used these before?
  16. Thank you! I constantly think that it's too late for me to do this at age 36, barely working on Associate's Degree and Nursing prerequisite classes. My age seriously discourages me at times. I'm trying to get over it though. Like the saying goes the time will pass by anyways so why not do something within that time.
  17. WOW this is an interesting post. I can't wait to read the replies it gets. I am going the exact same route as you. I'm currently in a CNA class and plan to get into the LVN program Spring of 2016 then go the LVN-RN bridge and get a BSN then MSN if I make it that far. I'm an older student (36) just beginning, so right now I would be ecstatic just being able to graduate from the LVN program. :)
  18. Thank you. We do have a Home Instead company here, I will look into that. Do they pay CNA's better than a Caregiver that isn't a CNA for Hospice type work?
  19. Hello duskyjewel, I was wondering what type of agencies have shifts for Hospice CNA's? I am in my CNA class right now and I wanted to do that too while doing my prerequisites for Nursing. Do you have to have special training to work in Hospice besides CNA?
  20. Gog3tter Thank you! Let's definitely keep each other updated. Good luck let us know when you get that acceptance letter. It will definitely be exciting news!
  21. I'm going to be 36 years old tomorrow and I am barely getting started with my prerequisites for the LVN program. By the time I'm accepted I will probably be 38 and graduate when I'm 39 (hopefully). I have 6 kids to be a Mommy too at the same time so I am taking this journey a little slower than some. We CAN and WILL do this! Good luck!
  22. I also have 6 children and am working on my prerequisites. I have been trying to get through school since 1998, but I obviously was having babies and having to work made it hard. I went to school off and on with a couple years off here and there. Sometimes I think that I cannot do this because I need to attend to my kids and work, but I am still going for it. My husband is very supportive but he also works 6 days a week, 10 hour days. My dad helps with the kids a lot but I feel bad too at the same time because he is 72 years old already. All in all, it IS hard but it can be done if you are organized and have really good time management skills. You can do it! Good luck to you! :)
  23. WOW dedicated_2b_RN You're very inspiring and encouraging because sometimes I just don't think I can do this anymore at age 36. You're AWESOME!!!!
  24. I'm not a Nurse yet but I'm still taking my prerequisites. I have to take them slowly since I work and have 6 children. You are still very young! I'm going to be 36 on the 15th and probably 40 by the time I can call myself a Nurse. You are not old at all you are at a good age to pursue your dream. You will be just fine. Good luck!
  25. Yeah I'm 36 (will be on Sept 15th) barely working on prerequisites, so I won't be an actual Nurse probably til I'm 40 since there's waiting lists. Unless, I get lucky and get chosen right away for my LVN program. Age doesn't matter. :)
