I'm in an accelerated BSN program and I am also driving an hour to and from class and clinicals as well. I have clinicals once a week and classes 3 times a week. I just have to wake up at 5am the earliest and I don't mind it at all, I use it as my time to unwind.

I spoke to the nursing director of the emergency room about this. She told me that absn and traditional bsn students are viewed the same, you both come out with a BSN.

I went to 6 different community colleges to take my prerequisite classes. I went where ever there was a space available. It didn't affect me at all when I applied to nursing programs.

You're correct. While I was working on my undergraduate degree the nursing students would complete their bsn in about 6 years at the very least and that's only if you did everything on time. There is the nursing prereqs you have to take on top of the general education requirement you must also complete to receive a bachelors degree.

How many schools you should apply to is completely up to you and your circumstances. There really is no average number because it really depends on the situation. You should consider your financial situation, your location, the school itself, and whether you are able to relocate amongst many other factors. Of course you can apply to all schools, but it's just not feasible sometimes especially if they all have different requirements.

I applied to the nursing program at Rio Hondo earlier this year and it was for the RN program. I got accepted into the program and it was my first time applying. I don't ever recall that there was a waiting list there for the RN program. Rio Hondo also holds information sessions regarding the different types of nursing programs they offer. It's very informative and I highly recommend you attend it as well. They have the information on their website but it is a bit tricky to navigate

I don't think you should become a nurse. As someone previously stated before me, you're trying to find reasons to convince yourself to go into nursing. It's an area that you really need to be passionate about since it's not just about you, but your patients as well. In certain areas, finding your first nursing job can be very difficult. Follow your dreams, you'd be happy once you do find yourself in your career.

I think that one of the most affordable ABSN program in CA is at CSUN as a previous poster mentioned before. I will be starting my program there next month, and it is by far the cheapest ABSN program I applied to. Since you're opened to out of state programs, your search will broaden a lot more and you'll have more choices.

I've done my share of informally teaching children from kindergarten- 8th grade. I can tell you just from my own experience that teaching is not an easy job. If you truly believe that teaching is where you belong, go for it! Just like we need nurses who are passionate about their job, we need teachers who are passionate about their job as well. Only you can decide what is right for you, and gaining exposure to each profession will help you with your experience. Good luck to you!

You're 20 so you have a lot of time ahead of you. I too looked into West Coast for their nursing program, but I did not attend. If the school keeps calling you about your progress, application, and intent to enroll, there's a reason why. The tuition is way too costly for just a RN degree. I chose to finish my bachelors degree at the time and applied to accelerated BSN programs in SoCal. Don't just go for West Coast simply because they have no wait list.

I too looked into the program offered at WCU as well, but it was just way too much for a BSN degree. In the end, I decided to finish up my bachelors degree and I applied to ABSN programs in SoCal. Like others have said already, I highly recommend that you reconsider especially if you want to become a CRNA.

I just bought my Littman cardiology III the other day. I had my first and last name engraved on the head. I did not put RN after my name after another user asked the same question and I read some of the responses.

Like you, I do not like chemistry at all and did not do well on it in high school. I also took it during summer and it was 5 weeks long. We had labs twice a week, and lecture M-F for 4 hours. It was brutal, but it was worth it. I had a study group and we would always stay after classes for at least 2 hours to study or do our homework. Come exam time, we would be on campus from 8am to 8pm. It was nice because our professor also stayed late and we got to ask him questions and offered us more help. Ultimately, what really got me through was my professor and his ability to teach the material presented to us. It was amazing how much I learned from him. He broke everything down for us and he would teach and reteach until we got the material. I'll admit it wasn't easy and there was a lot of late night studying on my part. There were about 15 people that ended up dropping the class because it was so overwhelming. Keep on going though because you will get it! You're doing this for a reason so keep your eye on the prize!

Hi everyone! I was originally accepted to the ABSN program here at MSMC for summer 2013. I chose not to attend because I got into a different school. Just wanted to let you all know that the invitations are sent out over a span of 3 weeks or so. I got my invitation the last week they were conducting interviews. I wish you all the best of luck!

I was really excited when I got into my first choice school. I was so shocked that I had to call them to confirm for me, twice! It was such a difficult program to get into, and I didn't feel like I had the qualifications so I thought they made a mistake. I know I have been accepted, but I feel like I'm in denial about actually starting nursing school. I've been buying all my supplies and books, but for some reason, it doesn't feel real yet. I hope orientation will make me feel like it's happening!

I think it might be something you can say in your personal statement if you can tie it in very well with what you're writing. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't care for it since there are many people who can't give blood due to many various reasons. It would put all these people, including myself, at an unfair disadvantage. I can not give blood because I do not meet the weight requirement to do so.

I volunteer in the emergency department at my local hospital. I originally started volunteering to make up for the fact that I can't donate blood (don't meet requirements). While I was starting my nursing applications, I noticed that there was an area where I can list health related activities and that's where my volunteering came in handy. Only one of the schools I applied to made it mandatory that we have volunteer experience. I thought volunteering was a great experience for me overall, and especially because I don't have a job in the health care field. You do seem like you have a pretty busy schedule, but I'm sure you can fit volunteering in there somehow. My hospital let's us volunteer for as little as two hours per shift if we're really busy. I haven't had a problem with the timberland, and some nursing friends of mine loves them! I think it just really depends on you and your feet so best to try on different brands and sizes as well. The Timberland Renovas are sold in store at Sears, but it may vary store to store. I have also tried on the Dansko clogs at Nordstrom, but they have a small selection. The Walking Company carries a large variety of them.

I have heard many good things about Nurse Mates, but I personally have not tried them myself. I purchased a pair of Timberland PRO Renova for my clinicals. I find that these run a half size too big but I love the way they feel under my feet. They're designed for people in health care.
