  1. I work nights, first semester I did a mixture of evening and morning classes. Mornings were brutal and this fall semester I'm doing evening classes only and go to work afterwards it's much better this way!
  2. Yes! I did and it's been helpful in my other classes.
  3. I am a mother to two children both under the age of 3, and I work part time. I'm also applying for fall 2014 programs!
  4. The school I am applying to requires a computers class as a pre req, and I am almost failing, I'm constantly fighting to maintain a C. I feel really discouraged...I did really well in all my previous semesters, I had a 3.8 gpa previously!! I think a big part of it is the teacher, she doesn't explain things well (my other classmates agree) and expects us to just know the material already even though it is a beginners class. After this semester I will be ready to apply for the fall 2014 class but I'm afraid this class will throw off my chances. But then if I drop and retake it in the spring I will miss the deadline for the fall program. What would you do?
  5. Sell some items you don't need, have a garage sale. There is absolutely no body you could borrow from?.$69 is not a lot of money to ask of a friend or family member, especially since it will help you get a job and then you could pay them back! Look at your grocery budget and see if you could cut a few things to.slowly save up the money. Good luck!
  6. Yes, I read before class (it is expected of us) to prepare for lecture and again afterwards to study for the test.
  7. Sorry! On my phone! I go back to work at 10 pm. I do this every week and it is incredibly exhausting but I make it work. The problem is now my work wants to do twice monthly trainings at noon on Thursday....I've asked my boss if there is a way I could do it on,a different day because first of all I would be late and obviously I would be totally exhausted. I got notes from my teachers to show her and she basically doesn't care...I don't know what to do...I can't lose my job because right now its our families only income but also I can't skip class to sleep. I get so little sleep because I also have a nursing baby and those 8 hrs on Thursday usually turns into more like 4-5. I did stay up last week for the training and was so tired I ended up falling asleep at a red light. Obviously so little sleep is dangerous....
  8. So far I've managed to do well with school and 2 small children. It was rough at first but we've got a good schedule down. Now I can't make things work with work.... Here's my schedule: go to class wed. 4-8 study till 10 pm then work from 10-6 study till class at 9 am. Class from 9-noon. Then I go home and sleep till 8 pm and then get up, spend time with family, etc. toll
  9. Not fallen asleep but I've nodded off! One my classes is 2 hours after my 12 hour.overnight shift so by then I'm exhausted. I too sit in the front row. My notes are always super detailed so I have something to do to keep me awake.
  10. I also have very young children (7 month boy and 2 year old girl) and it is tough. often times I have to tell my husband to just "take them away" for a few hours so I get studying done. I allow my self 10 minutes every hour to check facebook, send texts, get up and eat etc. that way I still get all my studying done and a little me time. Can you breastfeed laying down? I get a lot of my reading time done this way. I take the baby and lay in bed with him, if he's in the bed he'll usually fall asleep and use me as a pacifier and I'll just read for as long as he is sleeping. Who ever is watching your children while you are in class have them come an hour or two earlier and get to school early for some (hopefully) quiet study time. Or stay late.. Do you work? if so study during your breaks. Record lectures and listen on the way to work, class, the grocery store.
  11. Depends on the program , at my school you just need the certificate but its not necessary to work as one.
  12. How many of you volunteer? Is it required by your school? if not why do you do it? I am considering volunteering at a local hospital once a week. It is not required but I figured it couldn't hurt my application/ future job applications. I have class twice a week this summer (7 credits). plus I work 32 hours a week over nights. I also have two small children, do you think this is too much to take on? Also please note I am not only volunteering to get into a nursing program it's actually something I have wanted to do for awhile...I just never have. (since I made the decision to go back to school I am feeling more freedom to do things I wanted to do. before I was living in fear of being "Selfish" if I allowed my children to be baby sat or if I wasn't home all day)
  13. Yes. I was having a very traumtic birth experience with my first child and my nurses were my rock. They talked me through every thing. I knew I wanted to go into a career helping people but I wasn't sure what yet. It was actually the nursing student who did the best job now that I think about it. I yelled at that poor girl so many times and she just kept talking really calmly to me. They asked her if she wanted to put a catheter in and when I freaked out and said she couldn't let go of my hand she gave up that learning experience to stay by my side. My nurses positively impacted an otherwise horrible situation and I knew that's what I wanted to do.
  14. I think friendships are going to happen anyways :) I mean you spend so much time together it seems almost impossible not to pick up a few friends along the way. I visited a few nursing schools while trying to find one I wanted to go and I always saw students talking to each other and studying together and seemed like they all got along very well.
