  1. Thank you
  2. Harassment lawsuit! If it keeps happening. I won because my supervisor would so call chastise me during conference calls . I spoke with her about it but to no avail. then she called me out in front of my coworkers about not picking up extra shifts on my days off and about getting another job instead of picking up the shifts at the nursing home .Oh and yes I had to get another job

  4. I work the skilled unit 7pm -7a in a LTC facilityand I have 40 patients. At times. I have help to passing pills from 7p-11pm but this is not the norm. Most times , I work by myself with 3 CNAs
  5. LMAO! Sent my son with Dad to ER with history and they asked him She's a nurse isn't she? LOL
  6. On your days off ,you should be given orientation and get familiar with the paperwork and the med cart which is going to take some days to learn itself. One time during the holidays there was a call out and it took the DON and the Asst. DON on one cart to pass out the pills it took the whole eight hours on the morning shift! LMAO
  7. I don't know about you but I have bills to pay such as rent and utilities and without going back to school Im not going to get a job paying me 23.00/hr. I cant live off of 10.00 an hour so I stay miserable. Where are you working that's not miserable so that I can come get a job? Maybe you havent worked in LTC before this forum is always broadcasting the misery in nursing. I say more of us are miserable than happy and this is because of the politics of nursing and nursing being run as a business and so many other things that arent being talked about but rather swept under the rug Nursing has gone to pot!
  8. I myself started nursing when I was young and naive and didn't have the balls to speak up for myself. I lacked confidence because I was a new nurse and didn't have required the skill set yet to be autonomous so I relied on my "coworkers" to " show" me the ropes . REmember this, Just because every LPN or RN has a license it doesn't mean that the way they do things are the right way to do them. Girl, I tell you that was many years ago, Now I'm a loud mouthed nurse who knows better than take the word of her coworkers that the meds have been given, orders transcribed, the doctors have been called, the tube feedings have been hung and are running, transportation has been confirmed, the lab draw was done, the foley was changed and so on and so on.... You learn to follow up on your coworkers because many times if the mistake isn;t caught on your shift everybody gets written up. This job is a headache but the money is good. You always have to C.Y.A ( Cover your A...) this means making sure the CNAs are doing their jobs properly, your doing what your suppose to do and when you have a meeting with manangement they are going to have a witness and you bring a witness too. Keep your mouth shut don't gossip , tell your business, or get in with the clique. It's no way to to sugar coat nursing and who ever does is lying. Nursing needs its own reality show, with the REAL in it!
  9. If you are a Christian, I believe that you must not stand down because someone denounces Christ. I may not be right but I always pray with my patients, ask God to have mercy on their souls and then ask them if they have taken Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. What is EOL?

You just started in nursing. Get back to me in 2 yrs, if it takes that long for the rose colored glasses to break LOL Hilarious! We're miserable for a reason.
  11. I'm going through hell right now on my job because of politics. Please try to get this poll out there its the same thing Iv'e been saying tor years . Management keeps pushing more and more on us and its unsafe for the patients!
  12. Hi, contact HR first and then if no results corporate. You do not have to interact with anyone other that work related interactions. Right now , Im going through the same thing.
  13. Skiilled patients get charted on every shift. falls=incident report and nurses notes, Falls are charted on 3 days unless there is an injury then we chart until the injury is resolved. Antibiotics until course finished and then s/p 3 days for any adverse reactions. Anybody on report gets charted on until they come off ask what the policies are at your facility , carry a notebook with you until you get them downpacked Soon you'll have a routine
  14. After a week of not sending a patient out (he didn't look good at all ) On change of shift they found him unresponsive and had to call a code. Of course, it was swept under the rug that the nurses delayed treatment
  15. Are both of you in VA sounds like you work at my facility?
  16. The Holy Grail of the Nurse---CYA Because management will always hang you out to dry!
  17. I work at a crappy facility. Sometimes 5 admissions a day all on the 3-11 shift. At best at times the supervisor will help and other LpNs volunteer to help. Most times the nurses that have admissions don't leave until after 2am in the morning. As far as the MAR's , if you yourself don't write on the Mar's crush or whole, it won't get done. I suggest you ask the nurses that are familiar with the patients if they take meds whole or crushed. I hope you are in a good facility and have some good CNAs.
  18. Ive worked at many facilities where the CNA scheduler had more power than the Lpns. It seemed like they were in mgmt.

It might surprise you but there are people out there that dont wash for anything! Your patient that got up on that table probably hadn't washed since the baby was conceived LOL
  20. Sounds like you interviewed at my job! That was horrible the way you were treated, I hope this doesn't make you feel like it was your fault. Im glad you didnt get that job because that's how they treat and talk to their employees. I would call and report them to corporate.
  21. Haters! They were jealous; I get so tired of babying my CNAs ...I luv you and I appreciate what you do== But if your tired of wiping a*&^* go back to school! We as nurses get sh*&^D on too! Lpns complain about unit managers too. Everybody complains about everybody. If you don't like your boss, go back to school to become the Boss!
  22. As a hospice nurse all I can say is it changes you, I mean your outlook on life! Your patient was blessed to have you there with her
  23. The truth sets me free THE MONEY!
  24. If you short of staff 3 CNA's on a floor with a bunch of fallers who wear alarms How you gonna do rounds and as a nurse do my work if all the alarms keep going off, Ive got a high risk faller sitting at the desk with me in w/c cause they can't keep their @&*% IN THE BED AND THE UNIT GOING HAYWIRE Nobody's coming to help cause most likely the supervisor has a cart ( somebody called out) and she tells you your on your own
  25. DEPENDING on what floor i'm on, I can have 60 patients 30 skilled and the locked unit (dementia unit), or 60 on a separate skilled unit I pray that when I work no one falls, my Cna's don't " forget " to tell me about any skin tears, falls, or changes in patient conditions, and that I don't overlook any new orders not noted on MAR. OH! and I forgot LOL My relief comes on time HEE HEE
