nursing isn't for everyone
Nursing would be worth pursing if the business side of it would stop abusing it. The only message I read here is, " Hey if you can't stand being abused and being pay very poorly for it.... don't sign up. But, hey, we are always hiring victims... here, sign up." Don't be a nurse unless you're a masochist and can jump high when said to (like Gollum, that character on Lord of the Rings).... The problem is not about becoming a nurse ( a very noble practice ) It's the accountants, lawyers, and admins that rise to the top to pretty much practice that which is floats there.... But they don't give a damn.... and THE WORST... Nurses who just take it and accept it.

nursing isn't for everyone
This is a horrid excuse... So this thread is saying if you can't put up with the abuse then leave. SO, nursing is nothing but an abused state of affairs...I seriously ca nnot stand what I'm reading and will write more later. I can't believe the crap I'm reading.

Unrealistic nursing students
Where is nursing purgatory Sing Song? I really don't get the whole second degree, 10th degree... who gives a #$#. A person is a nurse is a nurse. So what? Kids in college can choose nursing for money or passion and person at 70 can choose it for money or passion. What matters is that people get the opportunity to see nursing as it really is. I remember asking nurses on the floor prior to becoming a nurse (family scene) They were like, " oh, yeah it's awesome". Now I know that a nurse can get called out if they complain about working conditions. Ex. Patient X states that nurse Z could not fill their water because too much going on... So, now I know why those nurses told me that. And no nurse wants to seem like they can't handle their job. SOOOOO... do you tell the nurses to be how it really is? It's a no win situation. Even if you tell mgt that you have too much to do... "Oh, so you're saying you don't have the time mgt. skills to do your job?" You can't win.

It just has to be said (vent)...
This is awesome! So happy for you "Sing-song in my heart" You seem to have experienced a time when nurses got to be a nurse. I hope to earn one day what you do. I do share a very common core with you: I love helping the patients and not in a self-serving ego way but a I can go home and be thankful that I got that chance to meet a new person, help them out, make them better and smile. Hope time creates the opportunity for all nurses to be able to experience your experience. I do on some days. I love it too...

Lawsuit Claims Nurse Was 'Worked to Death'
I totally get the work to death situation for many nurses.

Lawsuit Claims Nurse Was 'Worked to Death'
Im a day nurse. Night shift nurses need extra care. Those nurses rock! Yeah, I get my fair share of crap that they don't deal with but to deal with your whole body going against what it usually needs to do.... I totally respect night nurses. Because of current changes they are dealing with a lot more now. So they get the stress we go through (more so because of less resources) on top of the physical differential. THEY don't get paid enough! Patients don't just sleep. They are sick. A sleeping patient is scary, which is why I check in so often on my day patients. "Hey, how you doing?! you OK? What's you're name? ... lol

Lawsuit Claims Nurse Was 'Worked to Death'
That's nice... so put up or shut up...yeah it's as easy as that. That's the problem with nursing or any industry here and now. I like how you put the spin on it that it would hurt the facility if you leave. There are plenty of people lined up for the job that they don't even know about current conditions. THat doesn't make it right. And, yes, right does matter. It matters to all of us. Don't enable those conditions that make you live a life in the dirt. Stand together to make a change with every job in US. Don't support an environment that drags others down into bad working conditions. To accept it or retreat is giving up. It's not leaving nursing that is the answer, it is stopping the crap that is making it intolerable/dirt that is.

Worried about paying off student loan debt
I'm ticked off at the HRSA option. The HRSA option only seems to hire Master's or Doctorates although they claim to help RNs. Must be 10 year experienced RN's with clinical experience since not many HRSA scored places are hiring them (by then that RN has already paid alot on his/her loan somehow). I found one handful of job options for the whole country. If you wanna go to the land of ice and snow or tornado alley..... I was really disappointed by this and it really woke me up about the nursing demand with respects to current health care craziness out there now. Like, how can you offer this program to an RN and then don't let it happen. What a dead end. Sooooo..... spend the money on an FNP and you'll get some portion of your loans paid off. But take the risk that in 5 years those rules may change. I don't know why people are so shocked by this debt from OP (agree with KnCMommy). The more affordable options take years to get into if you do at all. If some private school is gonna offer you your RN in a year or two and you're working at Walmart.... there are opportunity costs if you don't go for it. You can say that the bottom line is the payment for the loan will spin you. I agree... but let's everyone look at the options given and not be so quick to judge. The options suck to pay for a field that has now turned out to NOT pay out for the present moment. Like I said before, schools and loan sharks are cashing in on a bad market. Not everyone has local options or the option to relocate to take advantage of these opportunities. OP is not alone by far on his/her situation. OP - you're gonna make it with some good budgeting tactics and financial ed. Get roommates, live on a hippie commune, get credit counselors and free legal advice.. whatever it takes. Just don't beat yourself up. There are lots of students in your boat. You're not alone.

What are you thankful for?
I'm thankful that I'm in a field that allows me to take care of wonderful people... regardless of how crazy it has become.

Pay Cut "Because of ObamaCare and Jerry Brown"
One can compare the current health coverage mandate like auto insurance. It's best for everyone to have coverage (especially if someone is underinsured). I'm just so confused about all of the issues that are surfacing that were not expected, like the dropping of policies by insurance companies. Im under the impression that it is mandated to have coverage but an insurance company is not forced to take you on as a client? I got to get the book. I also feel turned off that although seniors are told that their medicare coverage will not be cut but yet medicare cuts in terms of defining how they reimburse resembles a cut. Someone has to pay if they come back to the hospital within 30 days. How can the system justify not paying when the patient does not comply or gets sick out for some reason. I think these reimbursement changes need to be rethunk so that healthcare does not become defunct.

Pay Cut "Because of ObamaCare and Jerry Brown"
I see alot of strip malls starting primary care and visiting doctor businesses..... Where can RNs fit into the primary care role without paycuts except for getting Master's or Doctorates?

Worried about paying off student loan debt
It's tough because you think that taking out the loans for a nursing degree will be worth it since "you can get a job anywhere as a nurse." But just like all job sectors, we are suffering too, especially with all the changes happening with reimbursements. It's hard to find a job outside the hospital without at least a year of hospital experience but those positions are hard to come by too. Primary care seems like the way to go but seems like those positions are not advertising for RN's - only high acute positions in the hospital are out there. I know some people who spent this kind of money on massage therapy and art design jobs who are in the same position. Schools are raking in on the " I can't find a job so I better get back to school and get a degree in something that will hire me" situation that is out there now in our economy. But all sectors are not really hiring. Private loan sharks are just eating this desperation up. It drags down the economy if people are spending alot of their check on loan repayment instead of goods and services that support the economy.

Be careful what you divulge
I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what might scare members like myself or not like myself. :|

Be careful what you divulge
Well, that's comforting.

Be careful what you divulge
Thank you ESME12, that's what I wanted to hear. You see, I understand any word I type here can be picked up by the search engines. I don't include words like where I work, what kind of work I do and who I know here that can lead to any one specific piece of information. I vent here but I never include info on anyplace, time or person. I would like to continue in my most controversial/entertaining vents/posts and read from others as well. I so love the humorous passionate/controversial posts!!! But if I ever got the feeling I couldn't, I will have to not continue. And by that I would be soooo sad. I'm sure I'd be missed. LOL
