I worked at a level 1 trauma in ohio. We had a trauma pt come in and they were doing a bowel resection. The count was over by 1 lap which was found in the bowel. The patient had pica and had eaten a lap that they bought on the internet prior to their accident. Talk about an investigation.

Oh and your afternoon charge is sooooo much better than the person she replaced. I would be scrubbed in at 7 and at 1830 she would call in and say "yeah- I have no one to replace you". Eileen is better than the old charge RN.

I know what you mean- I di the same program in 2001. The "F" shift is a pain for several reasons- parking, traffic, etc. The best you can do is wait it out. Working off shifts there has its advantages. Working 8 hour days is usually only for the service nurses and can suck in its own right. I had to leave in the middle of an OH case to move my car from the Dean DOme to another parking lot to avoid getting towed. Overall the OR in which you work is like every other place but is a good place to be.

If you check out Monster, Career Builder or Indeed. com the home health and LTC areas are always hiring. But in a hospital you may have to take whatever you can find to get your foot in the door. Good Luck.

As much as it's not appropriate it happens. Nursing is more like high school than anyone would ever think if they weren't a nurse. The sad part is those who did get a position because of who they know will still rely on that connection and not always work toward being a good practitioner. So is it bullying or just NM's or charge RN's frustrated with mediocre nurses ?

Try taking a PICU job for a year. That should help greatly in getting a Peds PACU position.

Leaving the incision open depends on the amunt of damage has been done by a rupture. Obviously if it hasn't ruptured laproscopic is the standard method of removal. But in many cases when there is a rupture it has been ruptured for a few days. So by leaving it "open" and changing the packing is allowing the tissue regenerate and fill in the space that damaged tissue that's been removed has left behind.

The first class in nursing school is all about doing patient care, ADL's etc. And if you never did that kind of care as a student nurse than your school did you an injustice- and an injustice to patients.

I had the same dilemma about a month ago. I left early and ended up sliding off the highway and slamming into a guardrail. I called to say I would be late and why. Once I got there I thought the interview went well. And haven't heard from the manager either way. It obviously didn't convey to them how serious I was about the position.

Apply to all the places and plan to go there for a few days for interviews. I knew I was going to move to NC so I applied to several hospitals and set up all my interviews in the same week. Moving without a job is a gamble.

I was a traveling nurse for 7 years. You should finish out your contract. If you accept a job they should resepect that you want to keep your commitment. You never now what life is going to throw at you and you may want to go back.

I spoke to my director SEVERAL times about the situation before I decided to leave. Nothing was going to change. But the director still asked me to stay. I ended up seaking to the employee relations person with HR- not the HR person in charge of hiring. I told her everythng. Names and all. I was fortunate enough to be offered a different position at the hospital ( with less pay) but you need to ask yourself if it is a place that you still want to work at. My suggestion would to be make a clean break and find a per diem job somewhere else. You'll just be another topic for them to discuss.

Per Diem can blow. I worked 2 shifts last summer. Just tell them you were perdiem and there was low census. They're business people they know that nurses get canceled if theres no patients. Thats how it works.

The only info you need to give is : I resign from my current position. My last day will be ______. And sign it. Make sure you give the appropriate notice. RN's usually have to give 4 weeks. You can count on a crappy assignment until your done. The only people that need to know why you're leaving is HR/ employee relations. Make sure you have specific examples of hostile behavior. I've been in your shoes. I taped the envelope with my resignation to the managers door because I didn't care to have an indepth conversation about why. Ask for an exit interview.

It's bad business to accept then decline in case you ever want to go back. You don't want to burn your bridges. But a contract is only official with a signature. Just tell them that you've decided to get closer to "home". I have had to cancel a week before a contract because my family freaked out over the distance. The company said I could never work for them again but there's a thousand companies out there. I started working as a travel nurse about a year ago. I worked with one facility and my contract was renewed twice there, now I am on my second facility. The second facility asked me about a month ago if I would stay on for another contract period, and I told them that I would. Since that time I have changed my mind because I have some new concerns about the work environment, and I no longer want to stay. My agency says that I must stay because I verbally agreed to do so. They claim that because this is a state hospital, the state already issued a purchase order for my services, locking me in-- but I have not yet signed a new contract for the extension. Do I have to stay on for another 13 weeks, or can I leave? Thanks in advance, Vivian

You need to get into another department. Look into informatics or research.
