Safety glasses for the OR
I've been a new nurse in the OR for about a month, and everything is going great! However, there is one thing that's been driving me nuts: the flimsy, disposable eyewear they give us. Can anybody recommend a great pair of safety glasses that I could buy that won't fall down, fog up, or be in any other way annoying? Thanks so much! -Jenn

Wake Tech Nursing Program-Day in a life
Congratulations on getting into the program! :yeah:I just graduated from WTCC this May. The first semester requires the most time commitment as far as class, labs, clinicals, and studying. I believe it's M-F from 8-12. Some days will be for lab, some for clinical, but most of the first semester is lecture time. As the program continues, you spend fewer days on campus (usually one day off), but it really depends on the individual class. When you register for the class, Web Advisor gives you a general layout of class time, but don't schedule anything super important until you go to class the first day and get the actual schedule. I hope this helps! I hope you have a great time in the program! You're going to learn a lot, be super stressed, laugh, cry, and make a ton of new friends. PM me if you need any help! Good luck! - Jenn

New grads: Any difficulties landing a position in O.R
I graduated this May (2011) from an ADN program and was offered an O.R. position at two separate hospitals. You can do it! Good luck!

I got a job! *happy dance*
Congrats! You sound just like me...I'm going to be starting the same kind of job (new to the OR / new grad) in August. I'm really excited about the big stuff (learning a bunch of new skills/info/procedures) as well as the small stuff (cute scrub caps...ps - etsy.com has cute ones :)). I hope you have a great experience!...when do you start?

Why all the haters?
Thanks everybody! Canesdukegirl - I'm assuming you live in NC and/or work at Duke? The position I'm starting is at Duke! Let me know...it seems like you know a lot about OR nursing, and I'd love to keep talking with you - Jenn

Why all the haters?
I'm a new grad who has accepted a position in the OR at a large hospital. I currently work at a different hospital, and when I told all of my coworkers, I received nothing but "you're gonna be so bored," "you're gonna hate it," "you have 90 days to change your mind." I would think that people would be happy for me, but it seems like I'm getting nothing but unsolicited bad attitudes. I don't know if people are upset that I won't be staying here and working with them or what, but I'm getting tired of all the negativity. I know that OR is what I want to do. I understand it's going to be different from all the other nursing positions I've seen...that's why I'm so excited about it! On the floors, I see nothing but people complaining about their jobs, complaining about patients, etc. When I shadowed in the OR, everybody seemed to love their job. I can't wait to start my new job! I know I'm rambling...I guess what I'm looking for is a little advice from seasoned OR nurses (or even feedback from new grads who have started in the OR) about what you like, what you hate, etc. I also would like some suggestions on what to tell the "haters" at my current job. Thanks in advance, and I can't wait to join the ranks as an OR nurse :)
