  1. A twisted sense of humor the ability to see something that in any other setting would be considered totally amazing, bizarre, horrifying, shocking, hilarious, or scary. and say "there's something you dont see everyday," and get back to work.
  2. Navy, Special Boat Team 12, 5 months from graduating with my ASN
  3. Home health is a lot like pre-hospital care. Scene safety is in the eye of the beholder. If you don't feel safe, you're not safe. It's just that simple. Dont be there. Jim
  4. If you want a bottle filled at 1/4 full and R/T wont touch it, I say bleed it down to empty from a quarter and then call 'em to fill the bottle. Jim
  5. Aw sweet fancy Moses just ask him out already!:monkeydance:
  6. Some people just got to have something to hate. If it wasnt nurses it'd be the guy driving the ice cream truck. Can't stop 'em, can't change 'em. Jim
  7. Gotta love EBay. Stethoscope.com and Allheart are great too.
  8. The right to make up more rights ! :trout:
  9. there's lots of crazy stuff that gets done in the name of healing. in another life i watched a russian medic sew an ettube to a pts lip. sure makes you appreciate velcro.

As a student I'm always looking for the "what can I learn from this" aspect of things. From this lesson I learned to avoid buying the missus jewlery at all costs. Be well Tom
  11. My plan is take out an extra $500. in student loans and invest all of it in lottery tickets!! Can't miss!
  12. Is it related to the Liger?
  13. As soon as you get your books and sylabus, get out in front of your reading. Come up with a plan and write it down. You might try putting your study, reading, assignments on a little white board and update it weekly. Remember that it's easier to keep up than catch up. good luck and welcome
  14. In all seriousness it's pretty much the same steth. It has the same lumen in a lumen feature, same ear pieces. The Big difference that I could see is that the chest piece has the slight apex to it and the squishy stuff where your fingers go. I like the shape of the chest piece, it works really well with "big" patients when you have skinfolds to deal with, as well as just hearing great. I love the "tunable diaphragm" as well. hope this helps
  15. Just got one and I love it. It's pretty much the same as the master card but with kung fu grip. I'm really really impressed with it. jim
  16. Always go to clinicals. If the instructor has issues with it, he'll send you home. Better to show up and let the instructor make the decision.
  17. Option 1 enjoy until your nose burns out and you get used to it. Option 2 get one of those little chap stick looking containers of vicks vap o rub keep it in your pocket. On those really aromatic occasions a little dab (right above your lip) will do you. Hope this helps aloha Jim
  18. OP: You did the right thing, the scene was not safe (safety is in the eye of the beholder) Jill: There's nothing I can tell you. No matter what I say you'll stand firm in your convictions, and that's cool. I can tell you that I've felt safer caring for someone during a firefight in combat, than I have on a city street with the police there. The op is Chicago (a toddlin' town right) she didnt feel safe, her standard of what's safe and whats not safe is the only one that counts. it's not for us to judge. I was home in bed more than likely. ps Tazzi, will you be my preceptor?
  19. Ebay, 5 for 3 bucks and free shipping

Give him the 3 magic words, "hostile working environment."
  21. I got to tell you I was really impressed with Zappo's service as well. I got upgraded to 2 day UPS air and I didnt even ask for it. Their prices for a lot of shoes I was shopping for was actually lower than the manufacturer's site and free shipping to boot. Croc's was one of the ones that was cheaper at Zappos if I remember.
  22. Zappos.com Free shipping no tax. 3 day turnaround. good deal
  23. Easy way to tell what you took is if the book says "healthcare provider" it's AHA. If it says "Professional Rescuer" it's Red Cross. Chest thrust's for unconcious choking now, no prone abd thrusts
  24. I teach both Red Cross and AHA and the only real difference is that Red cross does back blows and abdominal thrusts for concious choking victims and AHA just does Abd thrusts. The real big difference is that AHA has a "recommended renewal date" of 2 years. Red Cross is a 1 year cert. About every school I know of here (socal) will take Red Cross as long as you take the CPR for the Professional class with AED. As I said it's the same as AHA's good luck ps go with the sweats suggestion and skip the low cut top that day. function over fashion is the rule for CPR classes. It's not all that demanding but you will have to roll a classmate onto his or her back from a prone position, and sooner or later you'll be doing a bunch of chest compressions. No biggie.
  25. I'll be 46 when I graduate Apr 08. I'm by no means the oldest in the class either
