  1. When people ask what I do, I say I am a nurse. "Oh, you're a RN?" No. I am a real nurse. I am a LPN! I do assessments every day.I add to the care plans. I once had a supervisor tell me once that LPNs are over-achievers because LPNs have 3 initials wh...
  2. Assistant Administrator position

Thanks so much Havin' A Party! I'm really excited about this turning point in my career. I can't wait to start and learn everything I can and more.
  3. Assistant Administrator position

I'm not sure where this should be posted but here it is. I went to an interview this morning for what I thought was for an ADON. When I got there, the Administrator said it was for an Assistant Administrator for the ALF unit. I was totally unprepared...
  4. Assistant Administrator position

I GOT THE JOB! Now, does anyone have any suggestions on how I get my Administrators License? This would be beneficially not only to the facility but me as well. I will start out as a "Manager in Training", then once I learn the ropes, I will be bumpe...
  5. Assistant Administrator position

ALF is short for Assisted Living Facility.
  6. "Death of the LPN" The local hospital in my area phased out LPNs years ago, and now have given new ADN grads until 2020 to get BSN. A trauma center only hires RNs and PACS. I have been looking for new job but am left with LTC, HH, or prison/jail. Of...
  7. feeling down and incompetent

[COLOR=#003366]itsmerae, don't be so hard on yourself! Everybody has bad days in nursing. I've been a LPN for 23 yrs now, and I have moments where I feel the same way. I too did PDN for a vent/trach client, and it's hard. They had been dealing with i...
  8. Unfortunately, BSN or MSN is the trend in the midwest where I live. After being a LPN for decades, I decided to go for my ADN recently, only to learn that they too are being overlooked. Hospitals won't accept applications from ADNs. I would think a M...
  9. The death of nursing

I live in a rural area. There is a small hospital 20 mi away, a trauma center 40mi away, and the big city is 100mi from my home. I have been an LPN for 20+ years, and slowly being phased out. I am able to work for HH, nursing homes, agency,prison/jai...
  10. Hows the LPN Job Market in your area?

Hello [COLOR=#003366]ecclecticlylovelylvn and congrats! I live in the nw corner of MO. I work with a couple new grad LPNs in a LTC facility. They have applied to physician offices and the hospital, but were not hired. I did a little exploring myself,...
  11. NEED TO VENT

Unfortunately, I feel like the LPN is slowly being phased out. In my area, hospitals are RNs and PCAs. That leaves nursing homes, prisons/jails, and agency jobs for LPNs. There is no room for advancement at these facilities for us, which is very frus...
  12. Something to think about

I work 12 hrs in a LTC. Due to low census and lack of staff, the 2-10 nurse has to relieve me at the end of my shift, at 6p, leaving her with 2 halls. The other day when she came in, she found out this would be happenong again. No it's nothing new. S...
  13. Something to think about

Thanks guys for the comments. It's frustrating because I never know for sure when I'm going home. And to think that all you have to do is have a tantrum and 'poof' you get your way. It's not fair to the residents or the staff that this kind of behavi...
  14. Thanks so much TheCommuter. I was wondering if there was another web site other than AANAC that offered MDS?
  15. Not sure which thread this should be on so I'll start here. Could someone please tell mme which cert would be more beneficial for LPN with 20+ years...MDS Coordinator or Managed Care Nurse? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Career Change PLEASE!

I'm right there with you. I'm in LTC now, 12 hr shifts. I've done hospital, office, LTC, home health, and correctional. I've been looking at MDS, managed care, and even DSD. Options are limited where I am. If I want to drive 100mi, one way, I could ...
  17. starting again

I do not have advice. I just wanted to say Good Luck to both LunahRN Asst. Admin and [COLOR=#003366]silv27star. And THANK YOU FOR SERVING! Stay safe and come home to your families soon. :)
  18. Are these true or false rumors about LPN

I have found that it is very difficult to get a hospital positiion as LPN. Most of them want MAs. LPNs usually work home health, clinic, or LTC, in my area. I am considering bridging to ADN so I can do something other than these options.
  19. Hanging It Up

Congratulations! And good luck on your new journey.
  20. study buddy

Where is NWA? I would be happy to study. I've been out of school waaaaaaaay too long and having problems. Getting discouraged.
  21. study buddy

Just getting started in Excelsior program and looking for study buddy in NW Missouri around Maryville area.
  22. I find my self needing encouragement to continue.

I have been a LPN for 20+ years and I'm tired of the nursing homes and home health gigs. My goal is management. But, unfortunately, everyone wants RNs. You can do this. I have to make myself do the reading and the testing but in the end I know it wil...
  23. UGGGGGGHHHHHH! algebra

Does anyone have any suggestions for the math course? Which text, etc. I've been out of school for 20+ yrs and have forgotten alot of the math. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  24. UGGGGGGHHHHHH! algebra

Hey Curt, I too am new to all of this. If you check on Excelsior website, your account, you can transfer credits from places like A.L.E.K.S for pre-req. but after Oct 1, you're only allowed 7 credits. You can get math credit thru ALEKS. After you get...
  25. UGGGGGGHHHHHH! algebra

Well, I have sent my h.s. and LPN school transcripts and have received acceptance letter. I started this but due to family health issues had to postpone it for awhile and I'm just now getting back into the groove of things. How about you?
