  1. Hello, ? Were you able to locate a preceptor ? I am interested in this program, how do you like it so far? Have you graduated yet, and if so, obtained employment in your field? Do you think this is an in-demand field? I am interested in informatics, but I do not want to waste money on going back to school if I cannot find a job.
  2. For a person that is not concerned about race, you brought up quite a few racial topics and made it known that your program is predominately run by women. If race doesn't matter to you, then why did you need to make it known, that you are a non-political white male in Nursing/NP school? What is wrong with a program that is predominately run by women? What is wrong with the one girl for expressing her thoughts on racism and slavery in class? Uh oh. . .there are women everywhere. Oh, no...race is being discussed in class. Wah... You should have stuck with computer science.
  3. I prefer 12 hour shifts. I do not want to be at work Monday - Friday. Heck no!!
  4. Hi, HooRN, I live in Dallas! My advice would be to, just keep applying, & in the mean time, I would apply for a position at an long-term care facility. You have not worked at the bedside in 8 yrs. So at least, you could be working on building some recent floor experience. There are verrryyyy few non-bedside jobs available in Texas, especially for nurses who do not have recent floor experience. Its always good to keep your toe in bedside nursing because practices change. Based on your description you have quite a bit of experience, but you do not hold a Master's degree. I work as a floor nurse, and I am letting you know more than 80% of the nurses on my unit have Master's degrees & cannot find an alternative job that does not involve teaching. My unit just hired a floor RN who has been an NP for 7 yrs, who hasn't been able to land another NP job; she broke down crying on the unit a night before because she hasn't worked as a bedside nurse in 5 yrs. She states she doesn't remember it being this hard. lol Anyway, there is a lot of competition out there, many of the nurses in non-bedside positions have been in their roles for years and now have Master's.
  5. Have you ever worked in retail before? You have to open boxes, stock items, lift heavy objects, deal with dirty cash all of the time. Why wouldn't you wear gloves?
  6. Sign up on the career website to receive e-mail notifications. You will get an e-mail every time a new job is posted.
  7. I need to find me a new job; my annual based salary is on the lower end. Thanks for this information.
  8. I've read several articles recently referring to a nursing shortage, but I have friends who graduated two years ago, who still have not found a job. I think more applicants should be turned away. There are thousands of new grads a year where I reside, and usually less than hundreds of new grad positions posted.
  9. I received a job offer from HCA, but I turned it down. Did you hear back from the other hospitals & land a position?
  10. I feel like it doesn't matter whether or not you have your ASN or BSN; its just hard to find a job period . I have friends who graduated in 2016, who still do not have their first nursing job, but I live in DFW, where there are nursing schools everywhere. So you have to compete with everyone in your class as well as prior classes & students a semester ahead of you to land a job. It really just depends on where you live. On top of that, if the hospital has great benefits & treats the nurses well, you can bet that there will be little to no job openings, for new grads or experienced nurses for that matter. I worked in a unit as a PCT, where the nurses all had been there for more than 15+ years, they did not hire any new grads in fact none of the med/surg units did because the nurses stay! So, I had to seek employment elsewhere once I graduated, but at least I received some great recommendations & assistance from my coworkers.
  11. What unit is your second interview for?
  12. Glad to hear that you found something else!
  13. Great, go with THR or Children's. Good luck on your journey.
  14. I don't know if you are still trying to figure this out or not, but here is the form you have to send in to review your file https://gp1.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/REQUEST-CONSUMER-REPORT-DISCLOSURE.pdf
  15. Medical City pays about $12- $13 an hr for techs. The cost of living is not as affordable as people would like to think here, unless you live in a small Texas town, your rent will be more than $800 a month, plus utilities and travel expenses. Which is very tight since you will be making less than $18. I also get concerned when I read about people moving here and them making the comment about how more affordable things are especially since, our homeless population has swelled.
  16. Congrats Jordan, That is awesome. I wish I would have landed a non-residency position. I applied to quite a few of them, I guess I should have held out a bit longer instead of accepting a residency position. So, far, I am dissatisfied with my decision. Do you have to sign a contract in the MICU? If so, how long is the contract?
  17. Austin sounds a lot like Dallas.
  18. Yes, I received it via e-mail as well as the welcome letter.
  19. So, I recently received and signed my contract. I'm excited and nervous at the same time!
  20. I plan to apply to this program. I signed up for the e-mail notification ,but I have yet to receive anything. Last year, the application was made available at the beginning of January......so I don't know what is going on.
  21. Pretty much all of DFW uses gp1. They have the client list on their site, but it is not up to date because I recently applied for a job and had a gp1 check at a hospital that is not on the list.
  22. I had a urine drug test, blood drawn for immunity testing, and a respirator fit test. I was up to date with all of immunizations, so I did not have to get any.
  23. I had my employee health visit a couple of days ago and I noticed the RNs wearing royal blue and black.
  24. This is slightly off topic but.....how is it possible that you can afford an 800 sq ft apartment as a new grad alone? I have been looking for a new place to stay, but every place is running over $1000 a month for a just a studio under 500 sq ft, where I live.
  25. I'm sorry to hear that. I can relate to feeling down . I passed on my fourth attempt, but I took my exams all after one another, so I passed within a year of graduating. I have severe test anxiety, I was shaking and hyperventilating each time I sat down in front of the computer. I would rush through questions just so I could go on break to vomit. On my last attempt, I sat down, took some deep breaths and told myself that I was going to pass because I knew the content and it was time for me to move on. It is a challenging test, but you can do it! It is not only about studying the content, but about being confident in yourself and mentally being in a good place. If you sit down and review content:bookworm: everyday for a month, and complete 10 to 15 questions (uWorld/NCSBN) a day you will pass as long as you believe you can.
