  1. so the waiting game begins.. took the exam yesterday... 75 questions.. about 20 SATA questions.. no med calculations.. some meds I have never heard of.. I went back and saw that some of my educated guesses were right.. some were not.. I did the trick.. and it came up passing.... so hoping it is correct.. I need to get out of this house.. doing searches on "75 questions.. did I pass" is driving me crazy!! I also need to stop stalking the nursing board seeing if my name is on it.. lol..
  2. I was under the impression that one fte (full time employment) was equal to one 40 hour (or whatever they considered to be full time) employee... so, for example, 1 fte could be 2 employees working 20 hours each (if using 40 hour as full time) Is that what you were looking for?
  3. check with your college to see if they accept online science courses with labs. (that is what i did) try Rio Salado College Good Luck!
  4. I think somewhere on their site it talks about the rules for proctor... your local library probably has a program.. my library even had information about proctored exams on their website...
  5. proctored exams are not new.... you can either go to the testing sites (in Arizona) or do what I did.. take your exam at the local library (they will mail the test to the proctor)
  6. they do have grant in addition to extended campus program (I am in the grant program... not extended program) there are 12 each semester...It is to end I think in 2010...
  7. good luck! did you already take the teas test? (I heard that was coming up for those that needed to take it)
  8. hey there... I saw that someone bumped this thread back up... I am now in my 1st semester... and I love it! I ended up rec. a letter to take foundations and Pharm last semester.. I rec'd my acceptance letter last November... Glad I had a nice summer.. I read, spent time with the kids... and yes... the time flew by.. :)
  9. no.. you use the ADAM software...
  10. 100% in California online?.. no.. I live in California and took mine (100%) via Rio Salado... (in Arizona) Good luck!
  11. wow.. this is truly my life!
  12. yes.. check with Rio Salado... but check with the nursing schools to see if they accept.. I know Goldenwest and Santa Ana do (saddleback does not)
  13. I took Micro at Rio Salado... loved it.. tough class, lots of essays, but I learned a lot. Check with your nursing school to see if they accept online science courses with a lab. Oh...Rio has classes that begin every 2 weeks...
  14. Hello.. I was on the wait list for 8 months (I was told it would be 1.5 years) I spent lots of time with my kids, was a room mom, read lots of books, knitted a blanket and worked out. I am beginning the program in just about 2 weeks... I am now putting the finishing touches on my kid's room (cleaning closets, etc) Enjoy.. the time goes by fast (people told me it would.. I had my doubts, but they were right!)
  15. re: flashcards.. normally there are some vocabulary words either in bold, or listed in the front, or ones that you don't understand what they mean. I believe the CD has flashcards, but you aren't able to print them (and I need to have flashcards that are mobile and with me everywhere)
  16. hey there! For me, biology was the hardest of the all the science classes..why, because this was a whole new language for me... I did well.. earned an A.. but I worked for it.. I esp. utilized the CD that came with the book.. great practice quizzes. Check out the website cellsalive.com as well.. great site. Study everyday.. learn the language.. because it will make AP, Micro and Chem easier (I spent a lot of time on DNA.. glad I did!) so my advice.. spend time on this one.. you will thank yourself later on down the road.. oh, if you are pressed for time, try hiring a stay at home mom or fellow college student to make your flashcards.. that is what I did.. (then I brought them everywhere with me) don't fall behind! good luck and enjoy the journey!!!
  17. it will be worth it! I am so proud of you! I went back to school when my youngest was 1. (I have 4 kids) Advice... study in chunks... study for say 20, then stop for 20 minutes and hang out with your child (of course, there may be times when you only get to study for 5 minutes and your child may need you... stay flexible) If you can, put your lectures on tape so you can walk around cleaning your home, cooking, etc, while listening to lectures. As your child gets older, have age appropriate toys next to you so you can both "work" next to each other. I remember lots of early mornings and late nights while my daughter was asleep. Maybe you can get a swing and have her next to you while you are studying... If you can, get to the library to get in some good study time. You will have good days and bad days... the good out weighs the bad (otherwise there wouldn't be so many moms on this board) Come on here for support During your school breaks make the most of family time! You can do this!!! (oh.. I took my time doing my pre-reqs... 2 years + summers.. was on the waiting list for 8 months... I am starting clinicals on 2/11... )
  18. I just wanted to chime in to say that I loved Rio Salado. I took AP2 and Micro there.. the instructors were great. The workload was intense and I remember being "in the land of essays" Good luck! Just wanted to reassure you this is a great school
  19. I felt very prepared (nervous, but prepared!) ... I did the study guide and took the online practice tests. They were very helpful! Good luck! (the math and science portions is esp. where it helped me)
  20. I also took the TEAS in November. I did the study guide and the online practice tests. I agree with the above poster, go fast on the math. I did not finish 2 problems in the math portion.. was litterally speed writing at the end. You said that the math portion was not making sense in the study guide..try it online (practice test) and see if that helps. If not, I would hire a tutor.
  21. Clinicals on Mondays, Tuesdays (I believe in the 6:00ish am range to 3:00ish range) and 2 hour lecture Wednesday and 2 hour lecture on Thursday + any skills lab time. I am taking Pharm and Nursing Foundations right now... we have orientation on Friday.. I can't wait!
  22. I feel like I did it "backwards" at times too! I was able to complete my pre-reqs online. I liked the flexiblity of completing the work on the weekend, early morning, late evenings... and trust me.. there were a lot of late nights and early mornings. Check out the distance board for more info. I really recommend Rio Salado... just be sure that your CC accepts online science courses with a lab. Labs are completed using ADAM software.. just be prepared for lots of essays (I believe there are about 40 per class) BUT.. I really feel I know my stuff due to all those essays. I think it is great that you also have the option of moving to Nevada! Good luck! Oh... Rio Salado college has classes that start every 2 weeks.. but it is expensive.
  23. hey there! I wrote this same exact post one year ago! Here is what I did...I spent lots and lots and lots of time with my children, read lots of books, lost 30lbs, took Pharm and Nursing Foundations, and just had fun... I can say it went by fast (people said it would and I didn't believe them) I start in February. Good luck to you! How long (approx) is your wait?
  24. you should be ok with that course load.. if you have great support for when you study. Also, I am sure you know not to procrastinate; you never know when a child is going to get sick and need momma. I schedule my time in "chunks" school time, study time, play time, wife time, exercise time, me time, etc.. Good luck! Oh.. there will be moments when you feel overwhelmed.. but just lean on your husband and realize you are working towards a goal that will benefit the whole family.
