I guess the point you are missing from this is that the "whiners" have gone to the tutor. They have scheduled time to speak with the professors and they have met with the Dean regarding their concerns. The "whiners" have done everything within their power to get their questions and concerns addressed without impacting lecture time. In fact, so many students have done so, that the Dean felt it was necessary to come to both section 1 and section 2 and interrupt class to discuss the many concerns she has been contacted about. The program is grossly disorganized. You have experienced that yourself. I recall that you have posted to the class Facebook page asking questions about scheduling, complaining about last minute schedule changes and not being told when or where we need to be somewhere etc. We are all working towards the same goal, which is learning the material, graduating and passing the NCLEX. I can understand your frustration with this situation, but posting on here about the situation is not cool. You painted the entire class as unrealistic, whiny children when in fact there are just a few student that would be considered children or unrealistic. You are no angel yourself. You have vilified an entire class on here yet you legitimately threw a temper tantrum and stalked out of class before it was dismissed, you have whined in our class Facebook page several times about the inconvenience of not being able to schedule your life because the program is so disorganized. You claim you are professional at all times yet you did all of these things and you are on all nurses complaining about the whiners in your class. If you got to know your classmates and actually socialized just enough to be polite you would know that the girl you yelled at before storming out the other day has one of the highest grades in our class. The "whiners" are the students that are doing the best! We are not all young. We are not all failing. We are not all expecting straight A's with minimal effort on our parts. We are not all whiners. We are not ALL anything more than stressed nursing students.

What is even more astounding is when the almost 40 year old stands up, shouts that she has things she needs to do and does not have time for "this". Basically throws a temper tantrum before storming out of the classroom like a child. (So much for "professional" at work and school!) I can not believe the Dean of Nursing decided she needed to speak with the entire cohort about the many complaints she has received without consulting the only serious student in the class. And, for the record, the Dean of Nursing initiated that classroom meeting. Not students. Not 1 person whined OR complained about the blizzard causing our exam to be cancelled they ASKED why it took so long for the faculty to contact students when they decided to cancel the exam for the second time because another campus was closed. They asked why it was not possible to for the professor to lecture a bit longer on ABG's because more than half of the class still had questions. This class costs more than $6000 so they have the right to asks their questions. Especially when the tutor for the nursing program does not know the information either and tutors students by READING directly from the textbook. Finally not one student complained the the readings were too long and too many, they said the syllabus was confusing. Look at yourself and your behavior before you rant on here about all of us. Especially since many of us are members here.

I just love that she is young enough to still think that starting at $50K makes it a rich profession. Please keep that attitude about money!

I have a BA in Business Admin/Management with a minor in HR. I have been unemployed for over a year. I decided in January '12 that maybe I had the right idea in high school and nursing was what I should be doing. (I am 35 now) I looked at the programs in my area and signed up at the local community college for the science classes I needed. Most of my classes from my BA transfered and I only needed to do the scinece pre-reqs. Then the stars aligned perfectly and the FT ADN program at my school extended their application deadline to May 15th, so I applied as soon as my spring classes ended. I just had my first day of nursing school today! It is possible. Good luck!

I highly doubt that the BON cares if you were forced to resign. I would hope they have more important things to be dealing with such as nurses that have violated law, hurt patients etc. So pick yourself up off the floor, dust yourself off and start looking for another job. When anyone asks.... the ER was not a good fit for me at this stage in my career. Once I determined that, my supervisors and I decided that it would be best for me to resign my position.

You are not the first nor will you be the last person to not do well in a new position. Why would you have to report that to the BON? Was there misconduct? Was a patient injured/killed? Did you violate laws?

When did you go to nursing school? The health plan offered by MA community colleges is VERY cheap compared to the cost of other plans and it complies with the MA Health Insurance requirements. $1050 for a full calendar year of health insurance is a pretty good deal. The plan I have does cover all routine ob/gyn care. I did not check to see if organ transplants are covered.....

Are you talking about the piece that has the Littmann logo on it? If so, that piece can be removed/replaced. If your classmate did actually damage it, all is not lost. It is normal to be a little OCD when you have your first brand new stethoscope (especially when you spend money on an expensive one) You will soon get over that. Your poor stethoscope is not going to be new and perfect forever. At some point you will drop it, accidentally hit it against something hard, it will get puked on etc.

Sorry, I am in the 10:30 - 12:30 class and my schedule from when I registered and on the portal says that class starts on 9/5.

Tell your parents that you are not too old. Personally, I am 35 and by the time I graduate I will be 37. I hope the "people" that did not congratulate you were not people you considered to be friends??? Family and friends should be happy that you are having success in following your dreams. Your age should not matter. All of my friends and family congratulated me when I was accepted. SO..... Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

You do sound whiny AND bitter! Allow me to be blunt, I promise the end of my post will be alot nicer than what I plan to say right now. Welcome to reality....where you have to look out for yourself. Nobody told you, well you clearly didn't ask the right people (if you even bothered to ask at all) If you had bothered to do the research you would have seen that your prestigious 4 year program was expensive and strongly suggested their students do not work. If you had bothered to network and ask, someone would have told you that doing an externship would be helpful. You chose to take out $100k in student loans. Again, if you had bothered to research, you would have know that snobbery about the school name comes with a higher tuition bill. The most important thing to look at with nursing schools is their NCLEX pass rate. Did you even bother to look at the pass rate for your school. Not to beat a dead horse, but if you had done some research about your "Brand name" school....... Finally, if you had bothered to research the job market at any time in your 4 years of school you would have found that there is no nursing shortage. (Now enough of the blunt and harsh commentary) Reality bites. Learn from this experience. Research!!!!! Don't expect that because you are paying outrageous sums of money to a school that it is going to tell you anything other than what is required. It would have been great if the faculty bothered to tell you and your fellow students that externships would be helpful, or that it is a really tough job market. They didn't tell you. They let you wander right into the storm without a warning. Learn from this!! The one person you know you can alway count on is yourself. You know how smart you are, so use those smarts. Research!!!!! I truly wish you the best of luck with your second NCLEX attempt and with your job search. Keep your chin up because you will make it though!

Sept 5th. I am in MA

Every school is going to be different. I searched for deals and bought my books online I paid a little over $400 for (all brand new)books that would have cost me $700ish at the school bookstore.

I have been wondering about when we wear the uniforms. Obviously for clinical. I would assume not to class. Not sure about lab. I bought one of the Coddington parking passes because I figured that I would need to park for lab and also if I need to go to the library. I know that for labs, if you chose the 8-10 lecture then you will have lab on Tuesdays. If you chose the 10:30-12:30 lecture then your lab is on Thursday. What is up in the air is what section we will get for lab (ie morning or afternoon)

I got all of my books, brand new, at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Half.com and a couple of Amazon marketplace dealers. I save like $300 bucks all of the books are literally brand new!

I think it would depend on several factors, most important would be 1) Where you want to move if you leave VA. 2) Would want to pursue an advanced degree? I live in MA and about 70-85% of all RN posting I have seen state you need to have graduated from a NLN Accredited Program. If you ever want to pursue an advanced degree, your classes might not be accepted at other schools.

It is not absolutely necessary to buy older editions in order to save money. My school bookstore would have charged me just over $700 for all the books I need. I bought them all online and all new and only paid $426.57 (including shipping). I could have save more money if I bought used books, but it drives me insane when a book is highlighted or notated by someone else. I searched the web with each ISBN and found the best deal for each book one at a time. It was time consuming but worth the effort.

I can tell from a business standpoint that sign on bonuses are usually used as an incentive to attract qualified applicants when there are more job openings than job seekers, and then only when the economy is robust enough for the business to be able to afford extra benefits such as (any type of) bonuses. There are very few areas in the US right now that are having trouble finding applicants to fill positions. With that said, there are still areas that might be offering sign on bonuses and other incentives in order to fill positions. I think that if you tell us where you are located or where you are willing to relocate to, as well as your experience and type of job you are looking for it would allow posters to give you a better idea of where you will have the best chance of finding a sign-on bonus.

well dukes217, i am truly sorry that you may lose your license (i read your other posts, and they describe the exact same situation as your "friend" so you are either 2 very unlucky individuals or your friend is actually you) my post was not meant to upset you or be antagonistic in any way so i apologize if it came across that way. my point was that a "simple bar fight" (your term not mine) does not usually result in felony charges. a simple bar fight is some pushing, yelling maybe a couple of punches being traded before the bar employees and/or patrons break it up. police are not usually called to the scene. your original post had said for readers to look up the bill and let you know what we think of it. i read the law, as well as the illinois definition of a forcible felony and then posted my thoughts. as i stated before, illinois considers a forcible felony to include "aggravated battery resulting in permanent disability, disfigurement or great bodily harm, and other felonies involving the use or threat of physical force or violence against an individual." i maintain that a simple bar fight does not result in permanent disability, disability or great bodily harm. i obviously do not know the specifics of your situation, but i will speculate that you hurt the other person enough for them to maybe need an er visit. that is one way that the cops would have become involved. or maybe the other party filed a formal complaint and exaggerated their injuries. whatever the case may be, you clearly learned your lesson, paid for your mistake, and stayed out of further trouble. you were able to go to nursing school, pass the nclex, and convinced the bon that you had turned over a new leaf and had worked hard to do so resulting in your probationary license. i will call a spade a spade and say this, it is a shame that the despicable actions of a few have resulted in this new law which will effectively end your career (in illinois and other states that may have same laws) in one of your original post you mentioned your lawyer. i would suggest discussion the situation with your lawyer in depth and seeing if there are any options for you such an appeals system. i wish you luck as you deal with this.

1. I am not a CNA so I will let someone who has been one answer the question about what they do. I do know from friends that it can differ from state to state and from facility to facility. 2. Both an ADN and a BSN are nursing degree programs that prepare you to sit for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensing Exam - Register Nurse) and become an RN. The NCLEX is the exam used in the United States for determining if you meet the competency requirements for effective and safe nursing practice at the entry level. The ADN is an Associates degree in Nursing (usually a 2 year program) and the BSN is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (usually 4 years). Both programs teach the same core curriculum that usually includes Med/Surg nursing, Pediatric nursing and Maternity/Newborn nursing. A BSN program takes will include more Nursing Theory study. The reason why people are recommending going for a BSN instead of an ADN is that more and more hospitals are requiring a BSN. I am confident that ADN programs will be phased out sooner rather than later. 3. I would suggest taking Chem again because the knowledge carries over into other required classes such as Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology and Pharmacology. 4. Every state has different requirements for getting your CNA. I suggest that you google the CNA requirements for your state.

Did you click on the link in the article that brings you to the report? I read through it and it doesn't seem to be anything more than pretty charts that make it seem like MA hospitals are severely understaffed. What kills me is that the report is from the Mass Hospital Assoc. and the Organization of Nurse Leaders MA & RI. You would think that at the very least, the Organization of Nurse Leaders would want the truth to be out there in the public. I think that this article and the report associated with it have done nothing more than muddy the waters even more about the "nursing shortage". Don't get me wrong, I would love it if the article and report were really on to something because a shortage would mean better treatment of nurses (wages, hours, benefits, incentives) But as someone who is about to start their first semester of nursing school, it is discouraging to me to see the press printing a story like this with documentation from authoritative sounding sources. I am already concerned about getting a job after graduation because now even the smaller hospitals in the area are all starting to require BSN's. (My program is an ADN)

I am not applying, I just wanted to say that they look at reading comprehension first. They only look at sentence skills if 2 applicants have the same reading comprehension score. if the sentence skills score is tied as well then they look at math. 118 for reading comp. is a great score, I think that you will be fine!!!!!!
