RN license with criminal record
He's right! All I heard was negative, negative, negative also; However, I made it through and I'm working as a nurse with a felony conviction (agg battery) My best advice to all u out there wondering is it possible, is be confident, tell the truth, and apply any and everywhere. If you are one of those nurses that think, "Oh I can't work in a nursing home; I can't work anywhere but a hospital"! Forget it! Those places are all on a hiring freeze these days and you best believe your application is at the bottom of the stack. Real nurses just want to help people no matter where the good lord leads them. I'm not saying look for the worst; but ,dont limited yourself to where every other nurse in the whole city is applying for eithier. Especially all you Rn's with criminal history... Best wishes all, I know I'm a happy nurse, with where I'm at

New RN having trouble getting employment with misdemeanor
Let me guess, you are from Indiana? That is the only state I know that is given out probationary license with those special stipulation. If you never find a job, you'll never get off probation. It's a total set up IMO. I know of one person out of 5 of us that walked into a Doctor's office and begged the Doctor's daughter for a job, she got it and now she can get off of that double jeopardy paper called probation. I say that because, IMO people that have changed their lives because of past mistakes where already on probation, court supervision, jail time, etc. WHY ARE WE PUNISHED AGAIN? I know the BON wants to monitor how each reformed person is doing on the job; However, there has got to be other ways, like maybe quarterly reports w/out the probated license. Indiana BON know of the trouble that new nurses are having while trying to gain employment with a past and a probated license. I heard that many people have written to them about it.WHYYYY even give it to us, hell, just say no, so that person can move on to something else. It's been 3 years + 200 application that = 2 interviews, honestly. I have moved to a different state, hoping that they are more forgiving of a 18 y/o felony. You are a RN you may just get lucky being that you have more options. Good luck sweetheart and I will pray for you and your family.

Question about awaiting license after passing nclex, had to submit court documents
Yes in illinois they want you to explain arrest as well!!!
-
How do you write a letter to the BON re rehabilitation
Don't you just hate when they post "The sky is the limit"! Anywho you would go to your circuit clerk office and ask for the NC(no complaint docket) and write up a statement explaining who, what, when where, how. The you would tell them how you made a stupid mistake and how you have moved on since then. It's that simply sugar. Make sure you have them to certify the back of the NC. Let me know if you need help. Don't worry you'll be fine. I've seen worst.

Waiting on approval to practice nursing with a Juvenile record
They don't go that far back sugar. They can't see juv'e records. Iv'e been to three bon's and not one brought up my juv'e rap sheet. Something is fishy here. What Springfield are u in? Mo or IL? What school did u attend nurse_ shyia?

Misdemeanors in past, finally an RN, can't get a job :(
Hey StudentNurse0. I'm praying that you get something soon. Have you applied in LTC facilities? Im in the same boat your in. I was living In Indiana and received a probationary license for one year. I hate the way they give out their discipline's. (like having a conviction isn't good enough, lets add more stipulation on her license, so we can really increase her chances on landing a job) because no one in Indiana will hire a person fresh out of school, a felony conviction, and a probationary license. NO ONE! Yet, you have to work and submit quarterly reports for a year to even petition the BON to have that probation removed. What a setup!! You don't even get a fair shot, this the board has to know. I'm not a quiter, so I'll keep moving around from state to state until I land a job. Nursing is all I know, I've been in this field since I was twenty. It's funny how I could land plenty of jobs as a CNA and known as a nurse in Indiana. Good luck StudentNurse0. I will add you to my prayer list. God is good, and I know he did not bring us this far to let us down. Have faith in him!

Felon, RN
I read your post and you said you had misdemeanors not felonies, so which is it? I'm not being mean, I'm just not understanding what you said in other post.

Do you think this law is fair in regards to healthcare workers in Illinois?
Yes Ruby your correct. But what if one of your loved ones get punished for having one bad night of poor judgement. How would you feel then? especially if you know that was out of character for that person? I've personally worked with nurses and docs that has had poor judgement with their patients care, yet they are given a second chance to practice. Mistakes, poor judgements don't make you a bad person. Repeat offenders, patient abuse, crimes against patients, children and so on should lose their license to practice, but a bar fight that happened 20 years ago that had nothing to do with healthcare is ridiculous.

Do you think this law is fair in regards to healthcare workers in Illinois?
This law states that anyone with a forcibly felony will have their license revoked, not just against a patient, AGAINST ANYONE!! Personally I think the law sucks b/c law makers made the law to broad when they added any felony against anyone. This could be you, your loved one or friends(stuff happens) may get into a bar fight and gives the other person a black eye and was charged with a felony battery 30 years ago will be affected by this law.. That's bull, that person will be banned from healthcare for getting into a fight at a bar that long ago. Geeeeez whatever happened to reform, lets just put everybody in the world that has a felony in a boat and give them food and water and let them coast away, the hell with them, they can't be changed, hell their convicted of a battery felony!

Will I ever become a nurse ??
I can vouch for what tiger is saying. I have a probationary license from Indiana and I cant buy a job. He's not lying when he's telling you that a probationary license In Indy is a set-up. I graduated 12-10 and I have put over 200 apps in with one job interview. Bump that I'm done and broke.. Maybe I'll have better luck in a different state. I'm a female with a felony probationary license so I know I need to find a new profession or move to another state. It's all about who u know these days anyway. Illinois started a new law that anyone with a forcibly felony was banned from nursing period. The saddest part of that new law was that I had two jobs waiting on me, got approved for licensure, and then a horrible phone call two months later, saying withdraw your application or else. I'll try one more state and that's it. However, I'm so tired of all of it.

Missouri nursing question.
I have a probationary LPN license in Indiana for a felony I caught eighteen years ago and I cant find a job. I tried getting my licensed endorsed to Illinois where I knew someone that will hire me, but b/c of their new law a withdrew my application. My probation status will not end until I get a job for one year and submit quarterly reports. Im willing to move to any state to chase my dream. I just never thought it would be this hard. I have worked so hard, and nobody will HIRE ME. Ive applied everywhere from nursing homes to doctors office and even homecare. I love nursing and Im willing to work in any nursing position. I dont mind crawling b4 I walk. I've been doing that for years. So my question is: Does anyone know any jobs in missourri that will hire me with a probationary license? Thanks in advance for any input.
