  1. When I was explaining to a patient that smoking cigarettes while you're pregnant could contribute to a low birth weight the patient asked if I meant low birth weight for her or the baby. It was hard to keep a straight face.
  2. CNC_1989 replied to DPalmieri's topic in LPN, LVN Corner
I'm a LPN student and I just don't understand why everyone is so focused on what type of education you have as a nurse. The way I see nursing is there's always room for advancement, that's part of the appeal but it dosen' t make anyone better than the other person. Who cares if RNs work more in hospitals and LPNs work in LTC and clinics. Nobody is "just" an anything, we are going or went through the hell known as nursing school and deserve the title nurse.
  3. I'm currently in nursing school but the worse job I've had was cashier (then later promoted to Beauty Adviser) at Walgreens. They worked me like a dog for minimum wage and I had to deal with the junkies cussing me out because the pharmacy denied them their meds. At least in nursing I'll get paid a lot more to deal with those people lol.
  4. I can relate because my ex husband wasn't supportive at all when I told him I wanted to be a nurse. Sometimes we have to do what's best for ourselves, this doesn't make us selfish. If your wife truly loved you then she would support you. If I were you I'd put my foot down or leave. Also, whatever you do don't have a baby right now.
  5. Grey scrubs with our school patch, a white lab coat, black shoes and hair up with small stud earrings and a flat wedding band. I'm so glad they done away with white a few semesters before me lol.
  6. In my state those jobs are hard to come by that's why I'm in nursing school. You should check out job postings in your area, try career builder, monster, etc. Also, check how many schools have that program, it may be congested.
  7. It was a sixty-something I believe.
  8. When I took my CNA class my teacher used power points, we had lecture notes plus our textbook. We also had a quiz after every chapter, homework and we had a new skill each week that we had to practice.
  9. Well first off, I find your comment unnecessary and second I don't think choosing LPN over RN has anything to do with a lack of intelligence. For most people it's a choice based on their financial situation. I'm sorry you're unhappy with the choice you made but you don't have to bring others down. OP, I'm in LPN school right now and I think it's tough based on the fact that we have so much being thrown at us all at once. I wish you luck in your journey as a nurse.
  10. I'm 26 and just started my program last month. I'll be 27 when I graduate from my LPN program :). You're still a youngin.
  11. The debt part I agree with but honestly if you have your LPN license employers don't really care where you went to school.
  12. You have to take the Kaplan exam and have a ged. They don't require an act or preqs but you get "extra points" for certain classes I think and previous healthcare experience. I got in but I have a 3.4 GPA and I made pretty good on the Kaplan so I'm not sure how hard it really is.
  13. The one in my state is, I know a couple of the students from last semester have passed boards and are working. The program is just unreasonably priced. I only applied because I was keeping my options open.
  14. Nope, it was crazy expensive plus I got accepted into JCJC. I talked to a couple of people that did it and they liked it. I just couldn't pay the 19,000 tuition.
  15. That's a question only you can answer, however I can put in my 2 cents. I chose the LPN route because I have an 8 year old son and financial difficulties . If you don't have kids and can support yourself while going to school I say go for RN. You're lucky, the LPN programs in my area are 11 and 12 months.
  16. You answered a major question that I was gonna ask. I didn't know if it would be beneficial if I did NCLEX questions from day one. Someone gave me a free Kaplan study guide so I'll use it along with my textbooks. :)
  17. I'll graduate in Dec of this year. :)
  18. I'm starting my program next Monday. I can't believe I'm finally in nursing school after deciding on this path almost 5 years ago. I've been brushing up on my A&P and reading up on nursing fundamentals. I was a CNA and then a endoscopy tech so I'm hoping my experience will help some. Good luck with your studies!
  19. Have you thought about radiology tech? In my state after completing a program and gaining some experience you can go back to school for nuclear medicine.
  20. In the hospital where I used to work they would train people to be a PCT. If you want to get into nursing try LPN, you could work as a PCT while in school. Be warned though, LPN programs can be just as competitive and it's no cake walk.
  21. You're young! I'm 26 and just got accepted into a LPN program. I'm hoping to have my RN by 30. You've got plenty of years left.
  22. It all depends on what you can afford. If you can do the RN program without putting yourself in a financial strain then go for that. I'm married with an 8 year old and LPN was the right choice for me because of finances. Just keep in mind that if you have to do LPN that you can always bridge over and make decent while you're doing it.
  23. Does anyone know the starting rate for an LPN in south MS? Thanks!
  24. I've been told that as well. Some people think its a waste of time but I see it as an opportunity to make good money while I advance my education. Not everyone stays an LPN, not saying anything bad about those that do, but you can always be an RN later. I'm proud to be a future LPN.
  25. So sorry, I didn't realize this was the Canadian forum lol! Quizlet should still be useful to you though. It's where you can create or view flash cards, it helped me so much.
