"Have no fear, we're savin' lives up in here"
Ahhh I work in long term care, and I would LOVE to make a video. Not sure what the hippa codes are for that. But there are a small amount of people whom I could absolutely depend on , who have a great sense of humor, who would do this with me.

Does an obese nurse set a bad example?
I have seen obese nurses treat patients with the utmost respect because they know what it feels like to not have any respect towards them because they are obese. I have seen slender nurses being very rude to patients because they have no idea how to reach out to them because they have never been in that vulnerable position. I am not saying "all" I am just saying.....

How does one cope post antidepressants
Most importantly like Merlyn stated, do not stop taking your medication because you feel better, it could be worse for you. I stumbled upon that quite a bit in my mental health rotation a few years ago, everyone thinks they feel better and then they end up back in the psycho ward. I can sympathize though, I understand why they quite taking their meds.

Why are nurses such back-stabbers?
Like Rodney King said "why can't we all just get along". I am a very positive person, and I go into work and ignore the negative ninnies. I do my job the best that I can, I have as much fun as I could possibly have in one shift, and I always do the right thing clinically. Life is short, LIVE IT! You need to let the nasty back stabbing wenches roll off of your shoulders :)

what items could you not go a nursing shift without?
I work 7p to 7a. Permanent marker, black pen, mountain dew and popcorn for around 3:00 a.m.

Exactly 2 weeks before NCLEX-RN Exam Day!! Yay!
Study the CD and know your lab values :))

Am feeling so sad. I failed my exam 2nd time.
Do not feel bad, I failed the exam twice myself. I was devastated, humiliated, embarrassed ect...... I put my big girl panties on and studied the cd from saunders and did all of the 4000 questions, and then a few other cd's. I quit studying out of the book just did the questions and I finally passed my third time with 85 questions. I can't even count how many books I read over and over and over again. I am a visual learner and I swear that is what helped me, especially if you got the question wrong on the cd, and they gave you the rationale, that is what really helped me. A lot of the nclex questions were very very similar to the ones from saunders cd. But you have to do all of the questions, at least twice. Hope this helps.

can my DON force me to work the floor?
At my job, we are frequently getting calls off, and we need the help to cover nursing positions. We went to computers last year, and since then, not a single office nurse has helped us on the floor. I think you should do the orientation, and get used to it. Also what if there were an emergency and they immediately needed an extra floor nurse. You have had a good long ride of the MDS job, so it will only be maybe two days a month, that is even IF you are called in.

Just finished NCLEX RN 40 min ago...
Seriously???? There is no Pearson view trick. You either passed the darn test or you didn't. Don't mean to be so cynical, but really.......

Why I LOVE night shift
Have been working days for about three years now. Just recently switched to nights 7p to 7a. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such less stress working nights!!! I was always proud to work days, because so many silly people strive to get to that shift , like it is a premium shift:)) Less stress, Less drama, Less patients families, ect............. will not ever, ever go to days again:)))))

Patient Surveys..vent.
I actually like patient surveys!! It shows the hospital what a bunch of miserable nurses that I work with who are so negative and mean are really like. And it shows that people appreciate me, as a kind and helpful nurse.

When will I stop dreading going to work?!
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who went through that. Hang in there!! I have been a nurse for 3 1/2 years and I am still learning things every day. It does get easier, it really really does.

Study guide need help... Really
Study for at least an hour when they nap. Or study when they go to bed, I finally passed mine on the third try, and I went back to Saunders study guide CD and book. Answer ALL of the questions, it really helped me. There are thousands of questions, and some of them are eerily similar to the NCLEX. I swear by Saunders that I am finally making 8 more dollars an hour than an LPN just for a peice of paper, that I busted my @$$ for.

Worked for 2 days, required to list on app?
I would not worry, about being leg go of a job after a few years if they found out you were fired after only two days. If you are a good worker, your boss will not care about that.

Feeling sick but don't want to call out on first day of orientation
Sorry, just have to say, If you are well enough to post on allnurses.com I think that you would be alright to go to work. I only call off if I think I am on my death bed, or if I thought I would infect someone. If I were that sick, I would not be on the internet. Just my two cents.
-
Sooo many crushed meds...
You can always add the meds to water that say "do not crush" but I must say In my 4 years of nursing not a SINGLE DARN PERSON has died because their med's were crushed. Just Sayin!!

Feeling sick but don't want to call out on first day of orientation
Hmmm..... look at all of the posts of other nurses not getting a job ANYWHERE and then make your decision.

Assisted Living nurses - how do you protect your license?
I work in LTC , If I had a dollar for all of the people saying that they did not get their vicodin at 1400 I would not have a mortgage. :)))))

Religion
Ahhh BluegrassRN, Just quoting you and love it!! " If you're secure in your religious/spiritual beliefs, why should it bother you?" Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!!! I frankly can sleep with myself fine at night, with my self. I treat people with respect, and deeply care for everyone I take care of.

Religion
Ughhh what a topic. I do not believe in God. I am spiritual but do not believe that adam and eve started the world. I do not believe that every animal in the world was put on an ark. I am however very kind and sensitive, I work with nurses who believe in god, but are so damn nasty to their residents. Ughh I usually just lie about god to be honest. If a resident states to me "oh god wanted me here" I usually just agree and scramble out of that room as fast as I can. I want to go into hospice nursing and I think I will have to deal with the "god" thing even more. What a topic.
